The Specific Research Design, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 304

Essay

The specific type of research method is quantitative adapting a correlational descriptive design. I think the author(s) choose this method because of their purpose to evaluate aspects of the psychosocial work environment that impact emotional wellbeing of nurses in this current generation (Lavoie-Tremblay, Wright,  Desforges &  Drevniok, 2008). While a theoretical approach towards interpreting findings could have been acceptable in measuring a psychological quality, statistical validation is necessary for establishing reliability as well as internal and external validity. Only a quantitative method could accurately account for research findings in the data analysis process (Gorard, 2013).

The specific research design for this study is one used to show a relationship between variables and is known within the science as descriptive correlational (Lavoie-Tremblay et. al, 2008). A rationale for the author(s) choosing this design is due to the desire of   showing a psychological association between work and emotional health of nurses. Even though the population are nurses and the researchers may be a healthcare professional the psychological nature of this study forges the type of design. Besides, correlational descriptive is the preferential design utilized by psychologists when interpreting human behavior (Gorard, 2013).
Another type of research design applicable for a study concerning ‘Creating a Healthy Workplace for New-Generation nurses’ is an experimental. This design also allows for making inferences or showing causality between two or more factors/variables. The advantage of using an experiment in evaluating relationships between psychosocial work environment and impacts on emotional wellbeing of nurses in this current generation is important. Experiments facilitate arriving at valid conclusions after establishing casual relationships among a number of variables retrieved in a study of this nature (Gorard, 2013).
