The Stockholm Syndrome, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 606

Essay

Introduction

Stockholm syndrome is an adjustment to more stress as a result of being into the captivity or torture. The Syndrome can occur to anyone around. These people might include the abused spouses, the destructive cults, prisoners and the kidnapping victims. An individual who may be suffering from the syndrome will tend to show positive feeling towards the abuser. The victim might have feelings which are negative towards the allies, family or any other security organization that has come under the rescue (Baltzan, & Phillips, 2009). The abuser can also show the positive feelings to the victim. The abuser will show a heart of helping the victim when supportive issues arise. Finally, the victims might be afraid of engaging into the activities that might lead to their release. But the doctors are out of this. This means that the syndrome is not a clinical issue.

The main fact is that the syndrome shows that even if a person has different feelings towards the abuser, such as love and fear, the abuser is still a victim and do not have any responsibility on the victimization. On my own opinion, I want to put it clear that these torture and crime comes on a continuum. I also understand that the women who are battered can as well suffer from the syndrome. The best way of playing tricks with the syndrome by playing dead in order to make the abusers fool. The abuser should agree with any thing that comes around as these are the only chances for their survivals (Haag, 2008). Children find it hard for they do not get time to share with the doctors of what the parents are doing to them. They assume that the parents love is very important and they might loss it if they tell it to the doctors. In my own opinion, this is not good and therefore all the children should take a chance of telling it to anyone who can offer a hand of help. Any woman who is a victim of the syndrome should be pleasing the abusers and give them anything that they ask. This act of pleasing might be advantageous to them since by keeping them out of rape as one day one time they might come under the rescue, like Colleen.

Patty Hearts has also suffered the same syndrome where she was made a servant by the Symbionese Liberation Army after her kidnap. Taking part in the robbery was a good thinking by Patty Hearts for this was the only way of surviving from the kidnappers. In my own opinion, Patty’s journey into the prison was a good idea since it showed the first road towards her rescue from the kidnappers, as it was the only way to get out of there. This has been clearly indicated when she was pardoned by Bill Clinton the former president of the United States of America in 2001.

She nowadays leaves happily with her family after being married by one of her body guards. She leaves a life of telling the story of the syndrome and the tactics she used to escape from the kidnappers. My other opinion is that a type of the Syndrome takes place within the women who are sometimes in love with the abusers and end up participating in their crimes.

Conclusion

Having any witness on any abuse or murder is enough to make women quite even though they are being harmed physically (Haag, 2008). Their husbands ensure that they are aggressive towards them and other women.
