It is a great opportunity for me to be in United States of America pursuing a career. Many who would like to be here maybe cannot afford the cost or do not know how to do it. However, in my point of view this is a blessing to be in my place here applying to be accepted in a BSN nursing program at PLU. In looking ahead my questions are,‘what will I do with my one wild and precious life? What hopes and plans do I have for my future at PLU and how will I use my unique skills, passions and experiences to make a positive contribution to campus and my life after college.

In answering my first question it brings me almost to tears realizing that opportunities appear sometimes only once in a lifetime.  For example, during my childhood Ethiopia the longing was always there to be in America going to school. Many children in my culture do not even attend school. If they do the level of education is very low and they seldom achieve what is considered a high school level education in America.

Besides, the learning environment is not like America.  Students may have to learn under trees out in open spaces. There are not always buildings with chalk boards, computersand evencomfortable seats. Teachers are not well trained as those in countries like America or even as patient, because they feel insecure in front of their classes. Therefore, the desire of attending school in America has always been a luxury day dreaming experience for me. This dream must become alive in the outer was my passion.

So in answering, what will I do with my one wild and precious life, first, it is putting my best efforts into achieving success, since it might be a one life privilege of getting the education, which was envisioned during my childhood,where there were limited  resources to obtain it. More importantly, it is gaining entry intothe nursing (BSN) program at PLU.

The hopes and plans I have for my future at PLis the next question that needs to be pondered. The major issue relates to what is hoped to occur at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), which is exceptional and not the same at other universities. PLU offers education programs in a sacred religious non-judgmental setting. It does not only teach students academics, but upon graduation students are equipped with skills that show integrity and honest relationships with others. Certainly, these are some qualities of life, which are necessary to build while pursing one’s greatest dreams.

It is a Christian University. While the faculty does not impose their religious values on students their model serve as a positive influence for life. For example, extra-curricular programs include days of giving. November 25 is celebrated as thanks giving day in America.PLU  hasalready has designed a day of giving on 12^thNovember t yearly to honor their giving culture. Also, they yearly honor veterans through many financial rewards enhancing their education. These giving qualities are meaningful to me(PLU).

As such, the plans for my future at PLU goes way beyond academic years since the desire is to get involved in all the activities this university offers grooming myself for future experinces. For example, when I view PLU website, the imagination of participating in classes offered for students preparing them to functionoutside the walls of college excites me. Already I see how blessing this college with my talents becomes easy. Knowing that byattending PLU it will give mescope to function not only as an academic, but to obtain  a fully carved personality empowered to serve the world, I feel fulfilled.

Some of these exposures include involvement in the community as a duty; taking part in health and safety campus activities; obtaining professional counselling; assisting in club duties,which facilitate learning how to become efficient home makers as wife husband or parent. These are all offered as part of counselling or extra-curricular college activities (PLU).

Consequently, the intention is to use my unique skills, passions and experiences to make a positive contribution to campus and my life after college. My strong gifts and talents with which I will enter college first is my musical gift. My passion is writing and complementing it reading. Besides, I am a people person with excellent communication teachiques. Therefore, with my eloquent soprano voice there is a place for me in the college choir. I have sung in many church choirs in Ethiopia and since my migration to United States of America, and intend doing the same rendering solos when I get admitted to PLU.

My people person skills could move me into a representative for students on the campus. At college students always need support because they are away from parent and family. The student campus population is their next family. While there may be many students who have the leadership charismatic potential if these qualities are not communicated correctly he/she can bring disaster to the positon of student council leader or representative.

Essentially, my abilities fit the positon of an efficient student council leader or representative. My personality is one thathas  garnered confidence and integrity. My social background testifies of my honesty and empathy for persons experiencing difficulties. Campus students often meet which these trials while studying. Strong student council leadership as a supportive mechanism is key to successful student outcomes in any college. My gifts and talents would be vital in this segment of PLU service to students.

In these poetic exclamations I submit that this application for admittance tothe nursing (BSN) program at PLU is my attitude of kneeling down in the grass, meaning that I am doing what I can and know to do in making my purpose clear. A  BSN degree in nursing from PLU will equip me with the skills needed to make a greater contribution to the world and my community. While nursing is a specialty in demand a nurse graduating from PLU would have additional skills to meet the world as a champion. Academic training do not only relate to books, but relationships with people all across the globe. Nurses in today’s health care environ need to learn about service for humanity beyond the paycheck. This is communicated at few University across America and PLU is one of them.
