Words: 308

Essay

The teachings of Islam are similar to Christianity because both religions are derived from the Jewish faith. As a consequence, both religions are monotheistic, meaning that they believe in one all-powerful all-knowing God. In addition, both religions believe that God sent prophets to communicate with man and the prophets of the Old Testament and considered to have played an important role in both religious. However, the prophets that were considered to be of vale diverge with the establishment of both religions. Mohammed is the primary prophet regarded in Islam, while Jesus Christ was the primary prophet regarded in Christianity. Since the teachings of these two individuals differed in some ways, the religions they inspired differed as well.

In addition, both religions believe that there is a heaven and hell and that Satan represents evil. Actions that are seen as evil should therefore be provided. However, both religions provide different definitions of sin. One of the most interesting differences is the dietary restrictions imposed in Islam. Individuals that Islam are required to eat Halal food, which is similar in some senses to the kosher requirements of Judaism. One of the best known dietary restrictions in the Christian religion is the dietary restrictions they are required to follow during Lent, which states that meat should not be eaten on Fridays.

Both religions believe in the Day of Judgement and that it is therefore important to follow their respective teachings to remain in favor with God. Furthermore, both religions believe that it is important to regularly attend prayer services. Christians primarily pray on Sundays and on holidays, while members of Islam pray several times a day. Last, the ethics followed by both religions are similar because they are both derived from Judaism. Thus, many of the stories in their respective holy books are similar in nature.
