The term “melting point” was used to refer to America in the sense that all races and individuals from Europe and the rest of the world left their lives and headed to the land that was also termed as the Devine land. The main reason for the movement was mainly due to people inalienable rights to live, for liberation and the pursuit for greener pastures and happiness. Also the democracy of the Government that gave room for foreigners to move into the country also encouraged people. The history of the country also facilitated this as its Declaration of Independence and Constitution had the culture and tradition of inviting and accepting qualified people from other countries. In doing this the country was promoting freedom and democracy.
America is a racial nationalism with its citizens held together by blood and the color of the skin. The inherited culture of self-government was also a contributor to it being a racial nation. The countries constitution had a great deal in making America a “melting pot”. It’s on the basis of this constitution that things like slave trade were endorsed. The enslavement of Africans and other races gave rise to many people of different races and culture settling and becoming citizens of America. Although in the beginning, racism was a big problem, with time effective measures were taken to ensure every American citizen has the right and freedom to live as a proud American. Africans, Asians, non-white Americans and people from the southern and eastern Europe were first rejected as non- Americans
The civic of this great nation also contributed a lot to what it is now, this took into consideration critical immigration and war policies, going to industrial organizations and civil rights. We have a number of American presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson with other organizations who were appreciated as liberals and are remembered for pushing through the civil rights revolution. They fought for civic nationalist tradition and equal rights for ethnic and racial citizens. It was Roosevelt’s belief of America being a superiority of the radicalized melting pot and many Americans supported him.
Wars were another thing that shaped the country national identity. They included the World War 1, the World War 2, the soviets and cold war. These wars threaten the citizens of America hence they had to unite against the enemies. They changed the uncertain loyalty of the citizens to become true patriots. Those in the country that were still feeling racially or politically inferior had to put that aside and protect their country. The sense of patriotism is seen in their number of solders that go to wars, they are always very many volunteers and from all races.
The other important movement to the making of America to be what it is now, the “melting pot” was the Black Nationalist renunciation of America. It was very crucial and stunning development. Once it had happened, the still pending matters concerning impartial unity and fractured society, all were silenced or did away with. The movement led to a wide and rapid spread of Black Nationalist principles to the main institutions and places where the whites were dominating. These places included; white and middle class university populations, the larger segments of White America with the European ethnics that had often been looked at as black power opponents for life. The initiative facilitated the collapsing of the discriminating country.
The Vietnam War which was very disastrous was the last major thing to do away with all those divisions that existed. Its results were that many whites over a million put aside their races, the states they were coming from, their nationalist and culture in a way that had not been witnessed before.
