The Therapeutic Interview Process, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 302

Essay

Qualitative Research Article Data Analysis Critique

The research selected for this analysis involved an investigation of the therapeutic interview process as it applies to other studies in the field. The authors believe that it is necessary to conduct this type of study because the results of such interviews are only relevant if they are conducted in a manner that produces comparable results. The study found that a majority of interviews can be considered successful if the researchers that issue them stick to boundaries. However, they must be able to remain flexible so that each family’s situation could fall into the framework in a manner that is useful to them.

In order to determine how the therapeutic interview process varies in a variety of situations, different cases were analyzed using this process. The coding process that determined the qualitative value of the data focused on how to appropriately establish and maintain the relationship with the client, how to match the language of the interviewee, and how to understand the context of revealed behavior.

While this study was effective, it was likely too broad to be able to accurately draw the conclusions it claims that should be drawn based on the data. These results could be applied to the marriage and family practice by determining the specific factors of the interview process that could be modified in order to gain more generalizable results. It is important to understand how to conduct interviews so that two research categories can be reasonably compared for the purpose of gaining a greater understanding of a topic within a particular field. This understanding may be useful in studies that compare families of two different cultures to ensure that the interview questions are well controlled.
