Once the most discussed facts about Christopher Columbus were what part of America, did he discover?  What happen during his journey, he was trying to avoid bandits. He had to stop in Canary Island to repair his ship. Columbus did not leave for about 30 days, one of his sailors actually found the island, which Columbus named Haiti. In reality, Christopher Columbus did not discover North America but only outliner islands of the Americas; he did later discover South America before his death. This paper will show that Christopher Columbus mission was not to find the America’s but to find ports with riches, to spread Catholicism, Queen and King’s wishes to bring fame to Christopher Columbus and Spain and provide trading to the world that bring all the wealth to the Spanish.

True Mission

Columbus true mission was to find a route to Asia because the Kings and Queens believed that the future of trading would be controlled by the country that could travel to the foreign countries. According to Biography (2012),” he failed to find that what he set out for – a new route to Asia and the riches it promised. There is conflicting historical information about the true mission, which should be investigated.

Catholicism

The Kings and Queens wanted to infiltrate other countries with their own religious beliefs. They believed that if the Catholic religion spread over the world, they would have more control. Columbus wanted fame and fortune. Ferdinand and Isabella wanted the same, along with the opportunity to export Catholicism to lands across the globe (History.com, pg4).

Slavery

The story behind the slavery of Spanish descendants was Christopher Columbus was loading his ships with slaves from every continent he visited. There is reputable research that indicated the Queen was appalled but only after it was Spanish people that were enslaved. The research will investigate the whether the King and Queen commissioned Columbus to bring slaves back from his journeys.

Discover America

There are conflicting stories that indicate the Norsemen discovered America long before Columbus or other stories that Columbus only discovered the islands on the outskirts of America. There is enough documented information for that era to make a determination.
