Essay

While everyone can speak, not everyone is accustomed to public speaking. Anxiety often attacks individuals who are not used to expressing themselves verbally in public. Relatively, it could be understood that this point of irritability and uncertainty comes from particular thoughts. One is the fear of not being able to convince the public of what the speaker is supposed to present to them. Another is the fear of not being able to do the issue and the presentation of the message due to disorganized thoughts and other particular shortcomings the speaker believes he has. No matter what the reason is, it should be realized that at least 75% of public speakers are not born to be good speakers and they have had their own share of feeling anxious about the next public appearance they ought to handle. Overcoming the hurdle between nervous anxiety and public speaking may not be that easy to accomplish, but it is certainly doable.

In this chapter, particular explanations on why anxiety occurs are given light. Knowing that understanding the situation better could give the individual a better chance of dealing with the situation, public speakers are advised to seek positive options of handling anxiety even before they face their audience. Among the points of advice given include establishing a focused idea and working around the topic through establishing the strength of the idea being proven. In this case, research helps a lot. A speaker would involve self confidence if he knows that what he is saying has a strong foundation. This is however only one among the most important keys to successful public speaking.

At the end of the chapter, it reminds how public speaking could and would always cause anxiety; and that this is a good sign of wanting to provide proper information to the public. Nevertheless, overcoming it through effective preparation and research could help a lot in not only building the confidence of the speaker but also in building the value of the speech itself. In the end, it could be asked, what could be the topics that could be handled in public speeches? What considerations should a speaker make in handling a particularly controversial topic?
