The Value of Human Life, Essay Example

Conflicts between morality and the law are often the most difficult. While I understand that entering the United States without correct documentation is illegal, I understand and the support the efforts of humanitarian organizations to prevent deaths. The truth of the matter is that there has always been and will always be illegal immigration across the United States-Mexico border. The promise of a better life in America is a strong motivator for immigrants, and while they are still committing a crime, they do not indeed to be malicious. While this situation is not ideal, it is also unpreventable; therefore there is little reason to sacrifice those who would attempt immigration with or without assistance. Some of the illnesses and deaths that befall those who attempt the journey can be eliminated, and I believe that it is our duty to do so, even if that means aiding those who break the law. Border control is an important concern for the United States Government; it should not, however, override the importance of human life. To demand that humanitarian societies stop aiding illegal immigrants would be to undermine their entire purpose. Both sides of the argument are understandable, however, human life must take precedence over all other political issues.
