Museums ‘per se’ are supposed to give specific information to the public through visual presentations that usually define a culture or social norm that affects a particular human generation. The World Erotic Art Museum functions in the same way. However, it could be realized that at some point, unlike other ordinary museums, this one presents a large collection of the least defined arts in the world. Instead of showing plain nudity of the subjects of the artworks that are displayed, this museum presents galleries that largely provide indication on human sexuality through eroticism. For those who might not be open to the idealisms of the said aspect of living, the World Erotic Art Museum might not seem to be a comfortable place to be. To some, they may even consider the exhibits to be a bit malicious.

Although this is a common notion when the term “erotic’ is mentioned, WEAM represents human eroticism with a great distinction on the science behind it. Defining human behavior and the way men and women respond to sexuality, this museum tries to explore human relationships [based on opposite sex] through exposing points of intimacy. For those who are open to the idea of human sexuality, this museum might serve a good educational purpose as it tries to explain through visual presentation how human relationships [especially marriages] could be further improved through the ideal process of intimacy. It is quite surprising to know though through some of its galleries how the cultures of ancient Greek, China and other similarly traditional and supposedly conservative nations that their view of sexual relations and intimacies go beyond what is expected. Mixing their ideas of eroticism with the conditions of their religious beliefs, it is quite unimaginable how far they would go to please each other’s sexual desires as a form of ritual. Alarmingly, respect for women in the past in consideration to sexual intercourse has been less regarded as they are considered as objects and not as individuals who need affection. This aspect of the galleries’ presentations could be used for better education on how sexuality between men and women has been shaped through time and history.

In this case, it could be understood that the museum would be able to serve its purpose of education human individuals about the most common issues of sexual intimacy if the audience would be open-minded. This includes being intellectually able to see the real art behind the supposed ‘malicious display’ of human sexuality that others may assume of what the galleries of the museum tend to share with their audiences. True to its sense, the art works shown in this museum tells more of a learning process than simply a representation of aesthetics. It aims to define sexuality as a norm that people should be opened about even through the aspect of making responsive art.
