Introduction

Adventure travel is an aspect of modern tourism industry that welcomes several numbers of individuals from all over the globe to experience the thrill of adventure in visiting new places with a pack of several activities to complete during the entire journey. Adventure tourism is often regarded to target the market of adventurous individuals who wish to complete tasks while enjoying the track of being on a foreign or even just an interesting area. Most often than not, the target destinations for this type of tourism interest involve nature-rich areas that are specifically capable of proving the travelers a chance to escape from the bustles of the city and experience the grandeur of living with nature. Xola Consulting Incorporated is an organization that focuses its attention on defining what modern trends are available in the market today that would specifically allow the tourism industry to flourish in the United States. In its comparative presentation of industry forecast between 2006 towards 2012, this analytical article shall provide a definite indication on what has been forecasted in the past, what is occurring today and what expectations are set towards the future of the tourism industry.

Geographic Overview

The United States is a home to several sceneries that endorse grand natural resources and beauty. National parks and specific destinations that provide travelers a chance to experience oneness with nature make this region a specific focus of interest for adventure-lovers. The industry of adventure tourism in America is noted to have doubled its impact on the market since the year 2006 towards the year 2008. Attributed to lower cost of services and the creation of package-vacation choices, the US becomes a specific destination that both local and international travelers consider to experience. IN the year 2006, it has been reported that the average income that was collected from the adventure tourism industries account for at least 9.8% yielded growth in comparison with other concentrations of travel in the field of tourism. This statistical data imposes on the fact that a huge percentage of the market being served by the tourism industry becomes highly considerate about the fact that the said aspect of industry gives them a better sense of what a vacation should be about.

What makes adventure tourism a lot more interesting than other forms of travel options is the fact that it allows human individuals to develop a sense of oneness with nature; it provides more than just the thrill of being in a foreign land or an interestingly challenging area. In a way, it feeds the desire of travelers to feel the thrill, to feel the excitement and evidently feel the satisfaction that they deserve from a long time of travelling to the wild; the options of adventure ranges from mountain climbing to mountain trekking, to living in the wild for days and hunting. Notably, it could be recognized that these options of tourism offer the travelers more than what they usually expect from a regular vacation.

According to the XOLA report, visitors in the United States come from ten primary nations that which include Canada, Mexico and UK taking the top three spots. In line with this, it could be noticed that the top three nations mentioned herein has the easiest path towards the US. This is the inbound trend of the industry in America. On the other end, are outbound trend notes that American travelers also take interest in visiting its neighboring countries within the regions of Canada, UK and Mexico just the same. The exchange of market between these countries entailed to strengthen the industry further. However, at the turn of year 2007, the outbound travel in US is much higher compared to its inbound rate. This means that more are going out to spend their money on other countries and less are coming it. This will remarkably cause an industrial loss on the part of adventure tourism. Perhaps because of the financial issues that emerged in 2007 onwards, the field of tourism [overall] experienced a drastic drop of interest from most of its target markets.  This resulted to the failure of US from the top spot towards the 6th spot of the dream destinations of most travelers around the globe. Due to the increase of rate of services pertaining to US travel vacations, many travelers responded on a survey that America has become a less interesting place to visit due to the increased rate of living in the country during the said years of economic trials. Hence, to support the re-growth of the industry, the American tourism agencies considered the following options of adjustments:

  • Removal of travelling barriers that keeps people away from considering America as a target destination. This includes restructuring the entrant policies in the country especially directed towards visitors who want to experience what the country has to offer.
  • Create better welcoming approaches that would make the visitors feel warm and welcomed in the country
  • Providing more time and attention to options of tourism services offered in the country on the part of the government administrators.
  • Reestablishing of new rules and policies on travel-tax applications

The effect of these four aspects of development has evidently fueled the rebirth of the industry’s growth towards modern tourism development in the US. The Discover America Partnership then headed the creation of national marketing approach that fueled the strengthening of agencies that provided travel and vacation services in the field of adventure tourism. In the course of campaigning towards the reestablishment of a better America, restructuring US embassies that provide entry visas to visitors to the US has also been taken into account. Replacing the service presented with the agencies of international embassies with a much friendlier approach imposed on a much welcoming environment that would welcome visitors into the premises of the American territories.

Current and Future Trends

At present, the supporting report of XOLA specifically points out how the campaign towards increasing the competence of the country in handling the market of tourism and the growth that the country hopes to embrace in the coming years of international operation. Sales on vacation programs have drastically increased and fuelled up the development of modern industries that provide an easy access to certain travel destinations. It is believed that due to the campaign that has been imposed in the country and towards its international agencies, the consideration of travelers over the services of vacation offered in the country has increased especially in relation to the competence that the industry receives from the international market of tourists. It is then expected that if the same campaign is developed fully to contend with the new trends of tourism as embraced by the new society, the American industry of tourism is to grow further and impose a more interesting set of offered convenience to travelers and “adventurers” coming from different areas of the world.

Sample Itinerary

Most adventure tourism packages include the following:

First day Nature Tours: The nature tour is dedicated to bringing the travelers on the primary interesting spots around a certain region in the United States. This tour directs the visitors to the most specific spots that are assessed to have a great impact in representing the most interesting scenes on the country.

Second Birding Tours: Bird watching is an interesting factor to do in the wild. These tours shall bring the visitors in several bird gardens that are best with the sceneries they present and extremely relaxing with the bird sounds that is one of the most important factors in the tour package being offered.

Third General tours: The general tours include interesting areas such as the primary trademarks of the region being considered in the visitation package.

Fourth Specialty tours: the specialty tours are dedicated to bringing the visitors in special areas like museums and other art-dedicated areas that spur the interest of the visitors and bring them into an understanding of the country’s history.

These sets of vacation and adventure packages are actually dedicated to make a definite impact on how the visitors’ values are supposed to be responded to and their desire for satisfaction be given proper consideration as part of the vacation-adventure package. Through these offered packages, the American society is expected to introduce its grandeur to a whole new world of visitors waiting to experience its beauty.

Summary

As seen from the discussion presented herein, the tourism industry in the United States has faced several down turns especially regarding points of consideration directed towards the economic conditions of the country in the year 2007 onwards. However, through the creation of a saving program imposed to create a more durable system of operating the tourism industry, the American concern towards a more referenced system of development has provided it with a relative condition that allowed it to become more competent in serving its target market from all over the globe. Indeed, the approach that was designated as part of the campaign for development was a strong indication that national cooperation is needed for an industry to flourish in the face of modern international developments. The trend that adventure tourism in America is taking into consideration has a great impact on how the country is preparing to face a new trend of development the international scene of operation. While tourism is expected to develop further in the future, it is expected that the United Sates would gear up further to embrace a new sense of impact on the entire growth of the industry. Seeing and considering these facts, the year 2012 is indeed a promising course of development for the American tourism industry.

Conclusion

The process of embracing progress as a country is a national aim that the American society has taken into consideration. It is the desire of the country to receive better chances of developing their tourism industry that pushed them to creating effective campaigns that they know would give them ample chance to gear up towards a certain course of development. Their efforts were certain and gave the country a boost towards extensive conditions that are best able to respond to the needs of the nation to return to its position in the international industry of tourism. With this in mind, it is evident how the American community had a comeback from a remarkable failure in the past with regards its position in the industry of adventure tourism.
