Training the Multigenerational Workforce, Essay Example

Pages: 3

Words: 822

Essay

After reading your proposal, I became curious as to whether research exists that explains why cohorts from different generations cannot be effectively trained using the same methods. While I appreciate that each generation tends to learn in a different way due to how they were raised, I believe that a majority of qualified work talent would react to the same training program in a similar manner. In general, classrooms, even during primary and secondary school, cater to a large variety of students who differ in both their experience and intelligence. The lessons that they are taught are therefore designed to compensate for this difference, which fosters learning. Therefore, differentiated learning is a necessary consideration in the workplace, but similar methods can be used to facilitate learning among all concerned individuals.

Link between Job Satisfaction and Employee Performance

After reading your proposal, I became interested in determining whether there is a relationship between job fit and the potential for an employee to get a raise. While job fit is certainly tied in with job performance because an individual feels that he or she is able to offer something unique to the position, it speared that this phenomenon would eventually hit a plateau. Therefore, the effects of job fit would diminish over time, replaced by other related variables. Although it is likely that more than this single factor would participate in this relationship, it appears that this topic has a wide range of details. Therefore, it may be reasonable to consider these other aspects as a part of your project.

Discussion 1

In your discussion, you state that job retention is related to employee satisfaction and that improving upon this should dissuade employees from leaving their position. A related phenomenon that interests me however, is how to encourage employees to be satisfied in the light of promotion opportunities. For example, even though an entry level employee will be satisfied with his or her job for a certain period of time, after experience is gained, he or she will feel deserving of a promotion or raise. In some cases, this is not possible, which decreases worker morale. When this is possible, not every employee will have the opportunity to accept a new position, so it appears that employee satisfaction should decrease. In this case, I was wondering how you believe such a situation would be resolved and if there would be a benefit in retaining the disgruntled employee.

Generations: Employee Commitment and Intent to Quit

It is interesting to postulate that generational differences influence the tendency of individuals to quit. While reading your discussion, I wondered whether you believe that these differences are due primarily to cultural or economic factors. From observing many of the trends in the modern era, our generation’s youth may feel that they need to switch jobs frequently in order to ensure they are getting the best deal. This makes sense in light of the fact that it is difficult to acquire stable jobs that are associated with growth. On the other hand, the older generations experienced greater degrees of economic stability and were therefore more willing to stay with a company for a long period of time. Does this concept make sense in the light of the literature you have read for the topic or is there an alternative explanation for this phenomenon?

Gender-Based Intercultural Leadership Competencies

While I agree that gender has a major impact on leadership, I believe that this is due primarily to cultural interactions and gender expectations. In the United States, women are more independent than they are in other nations, and a specific leadership style is exerted as a consequence. Intercultural leadership competencies are therefore difficult to discuss with an emphasis on women, since the cultural respect of the gender varies. Therefore, even though there are many respected women leaders in many areas of the world, these same individuals wouldn’t receive the respect of foreign leaders purely due to their failure to recognize the gender itself as being worthy. When considering international business agreements, it may therefore be necessary to select male leaders to participate in the negotiations, as failure to recognize cultural boundaries can be detrimental to the agreements.

Factors Influencing the Adoption of Virtualization and Cloud Computing

Although I am not aware of the many technological terms involved in the development of cloud computing, I am familiar with the many complaints that individuals are making that this system is not completely secure. I have a difficult time in determining how an individual could effectively hack this system in addition to how one would access a personal cloud from a computer that has been left unattended. Therefore, I was wondering if you would be able to dispel any myths concerning the security of cloud computing and how this information could be explained in slightly technical terms. Overall, it seems possible that these security issues are preventing businesses from adopting these systems, which may be due to an overall lack of understanding concerning modern computing.
