Transfer Techniques in Modern Manufacturing Companies in Canada, Essay Example

The field of knowledge management and knowledge transfer studies is very popular nowadays, since it reveals a great additional potential for business success and revenue growth. Unfortunately, tacit knowledge is less researched than explicit knowledge is; this situation results from the inability to measure and grasp tacit knowledge retained at the unconscious level of employees, and reflected in their habits and experience (Baumard, 1999). Therefore, additional research on tacit knowledge will open the way to managing the most valuable and diverse intellectual assets. The area of the present inquiry is the representative sample of Canadian manufacturing companies – Baytech, Canadian General Tower, and Huronia Precision Plastics; techniques applied in these three companies for tacit knowledge management and transfer will be researched for the sake of identifying the current status of practical application of the body of knowledge about tacit knowledge issues.

The present dissertation will represent the phenomenological study involving qualitative research, namely, the survey and case study research. Primary data will be elicited from case studies of three chosen companies and the surveys disseminated to their representatives. Further inductive and comparative analysis of qualitative data will allow to categorize received findings, and make feasible inferences about tacit knowledge management and transfer techniques currently used in Canadian manufacturing companies.
