Question One

According to Pinker, the global trend in conflict from World War II has slowed significantly. The state of warfare, including the use of nuclear weapons, has declined substantially during the previous 30 years. Moreover, poverty rates have dropped due to the discovery of new technologies, the expansion in the labor force, the reduction in business hours, and the increase in earnings, all of which contribute to a more contented society. In addition, there has been a decrease in worldwide violence and conflict. It is stated in the Home Security Report that there has been a worldwide drop in war casualties and political unrest after World War II (Ramsbotham et al., n d). A rise in homicide rates as been has been observed in developing countries.

Question Two

According to Pinker’s Ted Talk, when he analyzes how the globe was thirty years ago to how the world is today, the statistical information collected indicates the human environment has changed, making the world a better place living. Compared to 30 years ago, poverty rates, atomic weapons, and conflict rates have all reduced. Additionally, literacy rates have grown, infant mortality rates have reduced, and individuals appear to be happier today than they did previously. The Western and the European nations are on the rise in securing global peace. There has been a decrease in violence, homicide, and extremism in spite of the fact that the world appears to be in a permanent state of conflict at the moment. Consequently, the general message is that the earth can never be the best place to live, but it has become a substantially better living place in recent years.

Question Three

South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia are all considered to be part of the global South. The countries located in these regions are frequently referred to as low-income underdeveloped nations. In his book The New Peace, Pinker portrays the post-Cold Violence period as a “new peace” because of a reduction in worldwide violence and war. There has also been a decrease in acts of terrorism, holocausts, civil conflict, and persecution by dictatorial regimes in the poorer nations as a result of this (Strand & Hegre, 2021). Europe and America are the more wealthy and advanced regions, and they wielded greater influence and authority. As a result, they attempted to colonize and conquer the global South. Colonization and fascism followed after the cold war, which resulted in weaker governments. When nuclear weapons became more common in the global South, tensions and disagreements between sovereign nations resulted. As a result, European and Western nations were filled with fear and hostility.
