Essay

Twelfth Night was held at the Old Globe Theater on the 7th of November 2011. The play took about two hours and there was a half hour break that allowed the audience to take a break to have some snacks and drinks. The director for the play was Richard Seer. The characters of the play were popular actors of the theater that included Allison Spratt Pearce, Christopher Salazar, Deborah Radloff, Jonathan Spivey, Rachael Jenison and Adam Daveline. The actors did a very good acting job on the popular play by Shakespeare. The director decided to use a modern and make the play very funny, which served made the play more interesting.

The story is based on a shipwreck on the coast of in India. Viola (Allison Pratt Pearce) uses the disguise of a man so as to protect her and find a job. She eventually finds a job as a page in a court, where she falls in love with duke Orsino (Christopher Salazar). However he is interested in Olivia (Deborah Radloff). Olivia becomes very unhappy with the new man in the court who is actually Viola, who looks like a man.

The story is very funny because of the love and hate triangle that is the storyline the play. There are other characters that make the play even funnier; such as the servant Malvolio (Jonathan Spivey), who is tricked by Maria (Rachael Jenison) and Sir Toby Belch (Adam Daveline). This scene becomes very tense, and it is also funny at the same time. The director Richard Seer is fairly familiar with the play based on his experience as an actor at the theater, and he does not disappoint as the director of the play.

He uses a more modern time style so as to show the play in a way that the viewers can understand the play. His idea was to make the play more in this time, so that the viewers can find a character that can be similar to who the viewer is in real life. This would let the viewers to get to know the play better, which would have been very boring if it was acted in the old style or in the original way the play was made.

The theater is quite big and it allowed the director to play out different scenes at the same time, to get the audience to see the big picture of the play and how many of the characters were different. The lighting and the audio was very nice and there was the feeling of the sound coming from behind us yet it was from the stage. The lighting was well done and it brought out the characters well in the scenes.

Based on the play, the director wanted to make the play funny, and he was able to do that. The way, in which all the actors acted, they were able to act the play in a funny way. The actors were able to act their parts they way they were supposed to, and some did a very good job in acting. The thing that I found to be interesting is how long the play took. Because I enjoyed myself so much I did not notice how the play ended so quickly, but I enjoyed myself very much and I wished that the play would have gone on for longer.
