The accreditation of healthcare institutions is a critical factor in their reputations, professional growth, level of trust, and overall development. The Joint Commission is perhaps the most famous of these agencies, but others, such as DNVHC/NIAHO, also govern the level of quality that organizations provide to their patients (Kenney, 2013).  In addition, these accrediting bodies support compliance with a variety of standards and regulations, such as ISO 9001 (Fennel, 2014). In this context, organizations must be prepared to manage these requirements to meet established standards and other needs effectively that will sustain the reputation and quality that the organization has to offer (Fennel, 2014).

An organization with full accreditation has a much greater reputation than one without this distinction; therefore, it must be considered as a critical path to success and growth over the long term (Hebda & Czar, 2013). This practice also demonstrates the importance of an organization’s efforts to maintain a high level of confidence from its patients and key stakeholders, as this supports their ability to support high quality care and patient safety at all times (The Joint Commission, 2014). Under these conditions, an organization must operate to expand its practice environment and support its ongoing efforts to instill trust and security in the work that is performed (The Joint Commission, 2014).

Certification among healthcare providers must also demonstrate a high level of knowledge and understanding of the demands of healthcare practice and the ability to improve health management through certified expertise (The Joint Commission, 2014). These efforts will demonstrate consistency in quality of care and the development of new initiatives to support the growth of the practice environment on a continuous basis, all of which will aim to encourage patients to trust in their providers at an even higher level.
