Background of the Issue
With the many ailments that are affecting the human society today, the aspect of scientific research towards improving the capacity of modern medicine to respond to such issues implies on the need to expand the process by which body-imperfections and particular physical damages are responded to. Recently, the development of research pertaining to stem cell therapy has been introduced to modern medical practitioners. This however caused certain controversies as it involves the exploration and study on the most basic cell that develops before a fetus grows in the womb. The ethical considerations on the matter at some point caused some irregularities on the situation hence making it harder for the ones pursuing the study to continue with the needed experimentation. Nevertheless, it is assumed by those hoping to implicate success in the process that if stem cell therapy is better pursued, then the competence of medical procedures to respond to physical irregularities would increase up to 78% relatively. To know why the researchers who believe in the strength and capacity of stem cell therapy to resolve physical irregularities in several patients have such strong dependence on the success of the approach, several researches are to be examined in this documentation to help in establishing the backbone for the study being pursued regarding stem cell therapy.
Exploring the Possibilities
Being a medical intervention process, stem cell therapy is expected to be introduced to a damaged physical system on the onset of the problem. This procedure involves introducing a new adult stem cell to the tissue that has been damaged and needs repair. The new stem cell then acts as a support to the damage tissue hence reducing the patient’s period of suffering from pain and irregular physical function. Although it is assumed to be effective, only a few doctors have specializations in the area. Perhaps because of the controversies tied to the said approach, only a few medical practitioners would want to explore the possibilities of alleviating patient-pain through the said treatment. Nevertheless, some of the ailments that were assumed to be fully corrected through stem cell therapy include hear diseases, Huntington’s disease, diabetes, and bone-related injuries and damages. Such explorations have been presented through the study performed by Kang (2005) and her colleagues as they explored how a stem cell regeneration therapy could actually affect the healing and recovery process of a 37-year old patient suffering from spinal cord disabilities.
Another study is performed by Cummings (et al, 2005) on a cord-injured mice. The results of this study was outstanding as it presented how the neural nerves function in relation to the altering effect of the newly introduced system into the body. It indicated how the developments in the body specifically correlatively reacts to the new stem cell and how such introduction allows for the nerves to recreate a mind mapping that would allow the whole system to function again after being injured for quite some time. This aspect of the process is further established by the study of Lindvall and Kokaia (2006) on exploring the functionality of stem cell treatment for the developing neurological disorder on some patients. Observing the before and after condition of the patients regarding the application of the stem cell therapy into their system, this research indicates a systematic approach on how the body adjusts to the newly introduced stem cell and how the neurological function improved thereafter.
Although studies have already been introduced with regards the applicability of stem cell therapy on treating particular physical ailments, the need to know more about the developments pertaining to the said procedure would help in establishing the condition of efficiency that the process has in treating all other diseases that are still arising in the society today. To do so, utilizing the research of Singec (et al, 2007) and Weissman (2000) would be a helpful resource for the discussion. In both materials, the basic information about stem cell therapy is introduced with full indication on how the said development instantiates a sense of innovation in relation to the collaborative function of medicine and technology in dealing with specific physical irregularities occurring in some patients who are suffering from specific physical disabilities. The relative use of the information considered in these researches provides a constructive system that implicates development in modern medical science. Further exploring the aspects that make up the basic functions of stem cell therapy is expected to provide more in depth value to the research that is to be performed with regards the efficiency of stem cell therapy in providing aid to the regeneration of cells necessary for the recovery of physical damages and injuries brought about by certain disabilities.
