Understanding the Real Worth of the Theatre of the Absurd beyond Comedy and Chaos Topic Proposal Presentation
Literary art has long been realized to be a functional form of human expression; a matter that defines human excellence in defining life as it comes as a matter of an essential matter that makes up both their personality and their character. In a way, literary art is considered as the mirror by which humans see and define life as it happens. Through the years, the appreciation for literary art has been introduced in many forms and one of which is through the absurd theatre. The absurd theatre is most often than not noted to be the performance stage for uncanny presentations that intend to present life’s facts in a more comedic and at times chaotic approach. Relatively, the creation of these plays is not dependent simply on the aim of mocking the realities of life but to create a more indicative understanding on how life itself turns out to be an influential factor on how humans define themselves alongside its extensive occurrences.
Absurd theatre is basically a French designation of several plays’ genre that is is written mostly by European playwrights. In a way, these forms of literary art turned into forms of entertainment in the early years of theatre art. According to Neil Cornwell, the term “absurd” is simply based on a philosophical understanding as to how the plays are presented to the public (2). Relatively, this means that it does not need for a play to be specifically nonsense to be called absurd. The inspiration of the writers of these plays often come from the idea of creating a lighter reflection of the most convincingly hard situations that humans face in life. Considerably, their desire to make a strong impact on how humans redefine themselves alongside the elements of the plays pushes them to take different paths to get into the senses of their audience. This approach then is believed to create a more reflective approach that conditions the human mind to be entertained while thinking of the reality at the same time. This is why most absurd theatrical presentations utilize symbolisms and representations through their characters, their plots and at times even their settings (Esslin and Cornell, PPT).
In the research that is being proposed to be handled alongside this discussion, it is aimed that the definition of absurd theatre be focused more on how it reflects real life and how the audiences intend to react upon such implications of the play. Understandably, the research is directed towards making a greater impact on how this form of entertaining art reflects more of the realities of life and the ways by which humans respond to its challenges. Through connecting psychology and art together, this research is hoped to impose on the differential pattern by which the real value of absurd theatre could be further understood. With such a connection, understanding how the human audiences respond to the plays and why would become clarified hence depicting the realities of life as the mere representations that are being used to make the play’s absurdity more reflective of the facts.
To note, this research is directed towards manifesting a more meaningful path by which absurd theatre should be known for. Besides being satiric and all, the author of this research hopes to manifest that such form of theatre art has a great contribution on how reality is opted to be presented in comedic media programs today. The worth of indirectly helping the human individuals to examine themselves based on a play that they have merely been entertained with creates a value for the plays that are worth even more important than directly questioning the reactions, the stands and the opinions of others regarding the most crucial issues that they have to deal with in life.
