Introduction
Students are exhibiting a high rate of hook up habits amongst themselves, of which, their explanations can be based on a four major aspect of human development activities. Studies have shown that college interaction have become a common way of life in the colleges and have become part of the college experience. This paper tries to explain the four major factors that are leading to the types of relationships emulated by college students and the factors that are facilitating the situation. The four factors are; cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological. The explanation reveals that most changes on an individual take place while at the college in the struggle for identity and awareness.
Factors Leading to types of Relationship
Cognitive
When children transit from childhood to adolescence stage; their cognitive development changes from real object thinking/reasoning to a more systematic thinking/reasoning. This is the point where college students distance themselves from their families and begin looking for new identities (Blau & Snell, 2013). The students begin to recognize their hook up power on their opposite sex individuals. This stage involves a period of self-realization and confidence where students strive to know how others think about their physical appearance. Most students at this stage would want to expose their beauty to their fellow students. Peer-pressure also amounts to this phenomenon as other students would influence the rest by the way they groom. Ladies are viewed as the most worried about their sexuality as compared to men. The cognitive aspect of sexual development usually culminates into emotional and psychological struggles within an individual causing intimacy in the end (Holman &Sillars 2012).
Social
At the college, the social aspect of life is inevitable. The interaction at the college provides a platform for the students to discover strengths and weaknesses amongst their fellow students. The day to day encounter leads to a lot of changes amongst the students. They get to learn each other’s behavior. This leads to hook up amongst students who like the behavior of particular students. Research shows that this phenomenon takes time depending on the frequency of the interactions. Socialization in the campuses is not restricted by the management and this gives them more freedom over themselves. This kind of freedom promotes relationships which may not necessarily be permanent but for casual sexual intercourse (Brougham et al. 2009). Most students will find it easy to engage in relationships that do not have commitments. They give reasons of lack of time to commit themselves into relationships to concentrate on their studies. They only opt for a casual lover who will be fulfilling their emotional feelings (Littleton et al. 2009). The college environment seems have a great influence on the hook up habits. The peer pressure within contributes to this phenomena. A student who joined college with much focus in his/her studies tends to be carried along the way by the peers who are practicing casual hookups.
Emotional
Hook up can be termed as sexual activity with a casual partner that range from kissing to sexual intercourse. The events leading to this situation may be termed as emotional amongst students. Emotional changes develop with time as students get to interact with their fellow students. Emotional changes are termed natural and inevitable but studies show that they can be controlled depending on the individual’s principle and academic focus (Flack et al 2007). Emotional development become more intense when one sees beauty and other attractive qualities of his/her opposite sexes. The culture of interaction amongst the youthful individuals is based on exploring and experimenting. This culture provides assertiveness amongst the youth and they are able to be free and explore one another. As the youth share their preferences about hooking up, they tend to open their hearts for one another and this leads to emotional development for one another. This is because the students may feel that a certain lady or gent could be his/her right partner from the way they expressed their perceptions about hooking up (Olgetree& Drake, 2007).
Psychological
The psychological aspect of hook up habits is driven by adolescence developments. Imagination about sexual fulfillment drives one to seeking the fulfillment from the closest opposite sex partners who are within the campus. An individual’s brain is usually disturbed by the pictures drawn to it about the experiences and the need to explore more(Grello, Welsh&Harper 2006).Curiosity also takes control at this point. Most male students would want to have very many ladies to explore. Their psychology is affected as they want to explore more female partners with the expectation that they will gain more pleasure(Swanholm, Vosvick& Chng 2009). These ideas lead to college students engaging in relationships that are meat to explore what their psychology is directing them to do.
Conclusion
It is clear that the above domains are impacting so much on the college student’s interactive ability. Changes from childhood to adulthood seem to be taking full course while one is at the college. Emotional and psychological changes seem to blow out the most in the college social life. The level of freedom experience at the college also impacts greatly on the students as they tend to be more careless than before. The college students feel that the independence given to them by their parents and the school is meant to make them take actions blindly. The domains reveal that the hooks up in college are not the expected forms of relationship in the society and they end up wasting those who practice casual relationships.
