Essay

Introduction

As the owner of a prestigious firm of architects I have been requested to redesign the city of Jensen Beach which is in Florida and hand over the proposal to the city board which will be meeting next month. The main objective of the redesign is to make the city much more environmental friendly despite of the increased urbanization, it will as well highlight on the importance of urbanization in the growth of the city. The proposal will mainly elaborate on the design of its road, transport, housing infrastructure, communication, clean water piping, sewer and waste management and ease accessibilities to recreational centers.

Importance and Challenges of Urbanization

Urbanization is caused by increased migration of people from the rural areas I to the city in search of Jobs and accessibility of better services. Such influx of people in the city contributes to its growth as they contribute more to the municipalities which develops and maintain the city. However, the growth of the population of recent have been much higher than the city is developing hence causing it being congested and environmental unfriendly. According to Marchand, (2009) the congestion in the city has increased traffic and growth of industries which are emitting a lot of carbon which is a health hazard to its inhabitants.

Environmentally Friendly Design

To meet the expectation of the city board by ensuring the city is environmentally friendly there is need to expand transport systems, increase on residential areas, upgrade clean water piping and waste management and ensure there is reduction of carbon emission by upcoming industries.

The transport networks both road and railway needs to be expanded to decongest traffic in the city. A lot of congestion and traffic prolonged traffic jams make the vehicles emit a lot of carbon which is the main contributor to global worming (Marchand, 2009). It is also important to increase on the parking lots of motor cycles and bicycles in the city to encourage most people to use them in near future to commute short distances in the city which is essential in reduction of traffic Jam and emotion of carbon as well.

According to Henderson, 2002) the high population migrating in to the city needs clean water and garbage being generated is increasing by the day which is being more than the set infrastructure to support the growing population. Therefore, it is important to upgrade water pipes to get more clean water accessible to all the inhabitant of the city and manage garbage collection and its disposal or recycling it to be less hazardous. Good management.

Although there have been an influx of people in the city housing infrastructure designs have been the same and very few residential houses. Therefore, it is important to design less costly houses but of high quality to encourage developers to build more houses in the city. The recreation centers, learning institutions, shopping malls and health centers needs to be built more and the existing ones should be upgraded to accommodate the growing population in the city.

Conclusion

The proposal of expanding the city infrastructure to meet the challenge of urbanization needs to be reviewed periodically during its implementation and after implementation to indentify areas which need to be improved (Henderson, 2002). For the city board to sustain an eco-friendly city they will need to be keen on changing of the growth tread of the city and strategic on how to mitigate any foreseen circumstances which would compromise their objectives of maintaining a city which reduces emission hence reducing its impact on global warming.
