The cold war had the US and USSR contest for global influence where accusations regarding world dominance were traded. There was increased activity by the US throughout the globe to try and contain the effects of communism. These actions led to increased anti US sentiments throughout the world. The involvement of US in world affairs led to increased economic prosperity and enlargement of government due to establishment of a proactive and elaborate foreign policy. These helped shaped American political, economical and social landscape to what it is today[1].
The USSR had supported and created a N. Korean government that was hostile and aggressive. N. Korea had invaded S. Korea on the month of June 1950. The increase in size of the US government is as a result of trying to surround the Soviet Union with capitalist state which would undermine the socialist revolution and this needed complete restructuring of the government to include more state organs and specialized security apparatus. The United States hostility towards USSR was highlighted when troops were sent by Wilson to support the white Army against the socialists[2].
The creation of NATO was an intention to have the Europeans support the US. This had the effect of creating trade partners in the long run which has accounted for the increase in US economic prosperity. The collapse of communist world gave America the upper arm in controlling international trade.
The US involvement in world affairs flourished over this period. The espionage by CIA was meant to undermine governments. Increased support of guerillas abroad and the battle for hearts and minds of people in third world by giving them financial support.
The early years of cold war helped saw the US become a political and economic superpower. The US has since then become a trend setter. The collapse communism led to increased economic prosperity for US.
