Essay

I will be hosting Amy for three months who is coming from Kenya to study for three months. Over the last month, I have been able to get to know her family, especially her wonderful younger sister Gina who is twelve years old. I believe this is an excellent opportunity for Gina to be exposed to another culture at such a young age and I am confident this will have positive impact on her growth as a person.

I urge you to issue a month-long visit visa to Gina and her mother so that they can accompany Amy to New York. My plan is to host Gina and her mother for a little more than three weeks, i.e. April 4 – April 24, during which we will conduct sightseeing in New York and Boston. Some of the places we plan to visit in New York include Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Little China, Little Italy, Columbia University, and New York University. Similarly, we plan to visit Freedom Trail, Boston Public Garden, Museum of Fine Arts, and John F. Kennedy Presidential Museum & Library. I also hope to take Gina to Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. I have carefully selected these locations to widen Gina’s perspectives and inspire her to hopefully pursue her college education in the U.S. in the near future.

We cannot overstate the educational value of this opportunity for Gina to visit U.S., given her cultural background. In addition, I hope to visit Amy, Gina and their family in Kenya one day and this visit will afford me the opportunity to further cement my friendship with them. Please do not hesitate to let me know should you have any questions. I look forward to hosting Amy, Gina and their mom and hope this will be an experience they will never forget.
