Research Paper

Purposes

With the advent of mobile technology, the public has found easier ways to access social media. This has not only made life easier, it has made it simpler to communicate. The use of mobile phones within public spaces has at times been deemed as a nuisance. This is owing to the arguable fact that mobile phones have become a distraction and bother to individuals using the public space. I will explore how members of the public use media within public spaces and their perceptions of the use of media in public spaces. In particular, I will explore on the limits of media use in public spaces vis-à-vis modern culture.

Background

The study will be conducted at the Campbell Square. The area is an open landscaped civic square. It receives visitors and locals that represent the Scarborough demographic. This will ensure depth and scope in the information retrieved so as to clearly depict the position of Scarborough. This will also provide the option of conducting further research on a bigger sample as the square is known to host a number of events during the summer.

Scope

I will engage with the participants in one-on-one sessions. These sessions would be recorded in forms to be filled by the participants. This will be crucial in recording people’s opinions on the use of media in public spaces. This will be supplemented by personal observations on the use of media within the square.

Consent

In order for an individual to take part in an interview, their consent will have to be obtained. This will be important in ensuring the participants are willing to take part in the research. A consent form will be filled by the participant.
