Pages: 1

Words: 316

Essay

This is an essay that will talk about value chain activities in a hospital or a healthcare organization. The paper explains where one would ensure a connection of these organizational activities applied to ensure success of the value chain.

Value chain, defined as a set of sequences made up of both primary and support activities. They are performed by an organization so as to change inputs into value added outputs for their customers. A value chain activity in a hospital or health care organization would be high quality standards of services offered by the institute (Mullahy, 1998, p. 113). This is because of the changes in the sector from supply oriented markets to demand oriented market. Clients or customers have increased their mobility making them have more demands regarding hospital standards. Hospitals therefore, have to make improvements of their quality of services, ensure cost effective measures are undertaken in their operations, shorten the processes involved in the health care, and effectively use the human resource together with the medical facilities to ensure there is no wastage occurring (Mullahy, 1998, p. 115).

In order for the value chain to be successful, a hospital should adopt the hospital management system approach, to gain comprehensive control of the organization, and ensure that management of business is better with improved performance of the whole organization, through control and insights (Klassen & Menor, 2006, p. 26). Value chain management shows the relationship between different parts of the hospital, and how they contribute in realizing the hospitals goals. Therefore, management keeps track of all activities and ability to control them. By proper management techniques and coordination of other organizational processes, quality services production will be reached (Klassen & Menor, 2006, p. 28).
