Words: 321

Essay

Attraction is a feeling associated with human beings concerning another person that results to an intimate, romantioc or sexual interest to the person. Attraction is not a supernatural phenomenon which is difficult to fathom because some rules are in place to dictate the process. Although the attraction map may be identical for many people, reasons behind attraction may vary significantly (Christina, 2001). Although physical appearance was thought as the most important aspect of attraction, other variable also contribute significantly to attaction to other people.

Physical appearnce is the primary factor that determines attraction. It is the doorway to personality, social ease, confidence and emotions in the determination of how we perceive other people and likewise, how they perceive us. Physical looks of a person is the starting point which then motivates further investigations of other attributes of a person. However, physical look is not universally accepted as the priority aspect in attraction because people can adopt different and unique attraction maps (Christina, 2001).

Physical proximity is another important variable in atraction. David  (2007) has arued that, the frequency of interaction plays a crucila role in enhancing attraction (David, 2007). People are generally attracted to the people who they meet and interact with on regular basis. Close proximity enhances the frequency of seeing each other thereby promoting attraction. Farmiliarity is another important variable that predict why people attracted to another person. When people see each other frequently, they become farmiliar to one another and therefore an attraction is likely to develop between them. This promotes sharing of some traits and environment in common. Culture also plays a crucial role as a variable to predict why people attracted to another person. Culture has a role to play in the definition of an attraction map which gives preference to specific traits that are adored in other cultures.
