Article: Fresh Produce Comes to Bronx via a Veggie Mart on Wheels by Winnie Hu

Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/27/nyregion/fresh-produce-comes-to-the-bronx-via-a-veggie-mart-on-wheels.html?ref=nonprofitorganizations&_r=0. (Retrieved on March 9, 2014).

Summary: Residents of South of Bronx specifically note of their need of a better source of good food. To them, fast food has become the common source of everyday nourishment. This is the reason why the project of Tanya Field of developing a veggie mart with fresh produce sold at a cheap price becomes a responsive solution to the issue considered. Utilizing an old school bus for the transport of the fresh produce gives a distinct reputation for the group and the operation that they are specifically aiming to continue. This approach allowed Field to make a distinct impact on how the people within the community lived and ate and embraced a healthier lifestyle. Organizations and/or projects such as this one should be fully supported by the government; their desire to develop a better essence of understanding the situation of the locals and giving response to matters that they are most in need of gives such organizations the right to be fully supported. In a way, the overall desire of the organization to provide good food sources to the public living in South Bronx could be further passed on to other regions of the nation which may be having the same problem. Relatively, with such attention given to the capacity of the organization to extend its operations and become more effective in helping out the community, it could be expected that creating better healthy eating options for the public could be a possible goal to fulfill.

Questions for discussion: How could these particular nonprofit organizations be helped with their goals? How could their operations be further improved for the sake of allowing them to reach out to other members of the society? Are there any ways by which good food and good health be campaigned for at a better pace through empowering organizations or solo-groups that are dedicated to promoting the said elements to better living?
