War against Women: Congo and Kosovo

“CNN’s Anderson Cooper reports this war is the deadliest encounter since World War II.” (“War against Women: Congo and Kosovo”). There have been extreme reports by medical doctors of women being cut by their genitals and left to bleed and die. This is horrific! Women have been gang raped for years unreported to authorities and in most instances many feel that authorities would turn the other cheek. As one group of women go out the medical facility the doors are lined with more women coming in says many doctors in Congo in Kosovo. Women have absolutely no rights in this place of the world. “Not all the people treated at the hospital are adults, some are innocent children as young as three years old”, reports doctors. (“War against Women: Congo and Kosovo”). This all began with the genocide that spilled over from Rwanda killing millions of people. This simply spilled over into Congo. There have been hopes of democracy when the nation saw its first democratic election in 2005 but they still have great strides to reach. The country has finally broke the decades of dictatorship but the women are still getting raped on a daily basis. Groups are still stealing women left and right in isolated villages in eastern Congo. Sex is used as a force of power against these innocent women and there is nothing they can do but try to escape as a refuge to another bordering country. Many doctors repair these young women and do miracle works on them. It is so difficult for them to simply sit back and watch these criminal acts go untouched by authorities. There needs to be more education brought to the people of Congo and Kosovo to teach them women have rights. There needs to be stricter laws to promulgate jail time to those who treat women with such criminality and disrespect then maybe the malicious acts will cease.
