Pages: 2

Words: 441

Essay

Some decades ago personal computer was considered to be the object of luxury and only few people could afford it. Particularly, in the early 80’s when the computers started becoming affordable to the general public, the majority of people were afraid of these innovative technologies. Nevertheless, time flies and now we are the witnesses of the drastic changes in our society connected with the development of the PCs; it become apparent that computers appeared to be a “core job characteristic” (Shu, Tu, Wang 936) Concerning this paper, the focus lies in arguing that modern-day people emerge to be absolutely dependent on computers due to a variety of positive social outcomes, which are likely to facilitate everyday’s life.

Nowadays, people are sending their messages with the help of email, surfing the Internet, shopping online and communicating with their friends using social networks. Considering the issue of passionate usage of digital devices, one cannot but encounter the emergence of such a notion as computer self-efficacy that many regard as the variety of self-efficacy (Zhang & Espinoza). Generally, everyone has got used to the PC, which occurs as the powerful tool giving “some very attractive qualities” (von Hippel 3). Obviously, information technologies in general and computers in particular endow people with the ability to keep in step with constantly developing digital culture, since digitally literate people automatically get adapted to the present time. Contemplating upon the popularity of computers, which managed to replace the ordinary format of communication and collaboration, one should understand that people’s dependence on this programmable machines appears to be entirely reasonable.  Despite the fact that there is still a number of debates with regards to the weaknesses of the human awareness transformation by virtue of ongoing revolution of digital literacy, computers proved to be an integral part of the 21st century.

To conclude, it is worth saying that contemporary civilization can hardly exist without the bulk of all the digital tools and, mainly, computers, which have made a great contribution in the upbringing of completely different human attitude towards life standards; although the digital devices are not perfect, the engineers are constantly working on the improvement of their products, and, consequently, the phenomenon of people’s dependence on computers appears to be mostly justified.
