Wellness Clinic for Childhood Obesity, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 619

Essay

Obesity has been linked to high incidences of diabetes especially T2DM in children. In addition, research has also found a close association between obesity and insulin resistance. Besides health reasons, obese children may also face social stigma and isolation in the society which could have adverse psychological impact on them. This is why we have decided to create a non-profit wellness clinic for obese children which will educate children and help them adopt effective dietary and lifestyle habits to successfully manage their weight within a healthy range. Even though obese children are our primary concern, we have decided to target parents with weight management issues as well to create a more welcoming and family-oriented environment. We believe that the inclusion of parents will persuade more children to actively participate in our programs.

Our clinic will provide customized recommendations and solutions because successful weight management has no single or one-size-fits-all solution. The clinic staff will be comprised of nurses with advanced training in health and wellness, certified fitness trainers, social workers and certified dieticians. We will partner with a number of health organizations to seek their expertise in identifying as well as developing healthy options in everything from snacks to gourmet food. We intend to convince our clients that there are as many healthy options as there are unhealthy options and the key to successful weight management is not a sacrifice but knowledge.

Our mission is to help as many parents and children as possible and we cannot hope to achieve that unless we take steps to make our services affordable to most. We will offer multiple payment options to clients and keeping in mind our non-profit status, the installment plans will be interest-free. We will regularly evaluate our business model to identify potential areas of cost savings and pass those savings to the clients. We have already decided to offer only one package to make our operations simple as well as minimize costs. The package will include everything such as classes, exercise sessions, food, cooking sessions, weekly support groups, and learning material. In addition, we will arrange fun events such as picnics from time to time and these fun events will also be part of the overall package.

In addition to lectures, we will also introduce fun activities that could be substituted for exercise and yet are fun. We believe that people can only remain committed to something if they enjoy it otherwise they will leave sooner or later. This is why our staff has developed innovative and fun activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. We are also thinking of incorporating modern technology such as exercise and dance video games because they have a huge potential if utilized properly. We will also introduce our clients to tasty recipes made with fruits and vegetables to change their perceptions. In addition, we will teach parents how fruits and vegetables can be cleverly incorporated in children’s favorite foods without significantly changing the taste. From the start, our focus will be on the long term success of our clients which is why every program we will design, we will evaluate it for its long term applicability.

We also plan to introduce relaxation services in order to attract potential clients as well as increase our appeal to current ones. Our clinic will also offer chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and private consultation with nutritionists.  We will offer these services one once a week so as not to distract ourselves from the main mission of the clinic which is obesity prevention. As already stated, our business model will be flexible and as our staff learns from their experiences over time, we will add or remove certain services in order to increase the probability of our long term success.
