What Did the Researchers Say Was the Purpose of the Study? Essay Example

Essay

The First Research Participation

The first page of this survey was demographic questions. The next part of this survey provided some statements about our identity. In this regard, one has to state whether he or she agrees with it. Then the survey provided a case about one’s feelings. After reading it, one has to rate on whether or not one agrees with the case. The final part was similar with the first part. I think these survey questions should be improved because the identity is an aboard word. All the questions in this survey can be concluded with respect to one’s views on whether one is connected to others or not. As to whether one can influence the community and are not an observer is also an important parameter. However, I think responses to those questions are insufficient to portray our feelings, as well as our characters.

After the completion and submission of the final page, I was still confused with the purpose of the study. The debriefing form did not give more detail about the purpose. Instead, it only provided the title that is our Identity- about our personalities. Deception was not used in this survey because the consent form had it that one would express one’s agreement or disagreement with statements about our identity. All the questions in this survey were multiple-choice questions and only need us to provide a rating for agree or disagree.

I feel that the consent form adequately prepared me for what to expect in the study. It provided what kind of questions that you would be asked and the time you expected to spend. However, the consent form did not explain the purpose of this study in that it only included the title.

The survey is anonymous; it presents minimal risk to participants. It abides by Belmont Principles. In every part of the survey, it will provide guidance as to how one can withdraw from the study and participants’ mode of participation.

The second Research Participation

During the first meeting of this study, I completed two computer tasks and a set of questionnaires. In the next 21 days, I uploaded two pictures to Google Drive and completed nightly survey as well as weekly survey. After 5weeks, I did the same computer tasks and questionnaires just as I did in the first meeting. I got tired after completing the computer tasks and the questionnaires. I learned that the questionnaires should be made in a lean way in that many questions affect participants’ efficiency, and thus lead to inaccurate results.

This study seeks to determine whether researchers can teach young adults to perform a set of exercise using the camera features on their smart phones or not.  The debriefing form gives me more details because it enumerates the purposes of both the computer tasks as well as the questionnaires. I think there was deception used because the consent said that computer tasks and questionnaire packet would take approximately 1.5 hours for every participant. I spent about 2.5 hours to complete them. It is imperative to note that the questionnaire packet is bloated and complicated. It has 45 pages, and one needs to rate about 20 statements for each page.

The consent form is adequately prepared in that it informs me of what to expect in the study. It stipulates that every participant will be asked to complete a packet of questionnaires and computer tasks prior to the start and the end of the study. Furthermore, after reading consent form, it informs me that I should upload two photographs as well as daily surveys every night.

Although one can withdraw from this study at any time, one will feel embarrassed if tempted to drop off from it. However, this study abides by Belmont Principles in that protects the identity of the participants. One has to fill in the forms about the privacy of the photography that is uploaded for 21 days. If one do not allow them to use their photo in lectures or other areas, they respect the participants’ wish and thus, delete the folder.
