The article talks cogently about unrestricted warfare, a book that was published in 1999 by China. The book is a proposal of various tactics used by developing countries, mainly China in compensating for their military inferiority. The article discusses giving examples the meaning of unrestricted warfare. The focus of the book is how countries such as China can easily defeat technologically superior, for instance, the United States and some European countries. From the article, the authors assert that the main weakness of the US is that it views all revolutions in the military thought solely in terms of technology. The book also argues that the US military remains stronger due to its use of modern technology.

Unrestricted warfare refers to type of war whereby there is a declaration of specific areas as off limits of the aircrafts. Countries sometimes declare an unrestricted air or sea warfare and usually end up attacking everything they find around the medium. The book also talks of international law as a way of practicing unrestricted warfare. The book also talks of economic means as a way of placing one’s opponent in an unbearable position thus circumventing the needs for any direct military involvement. This involves a series of sanctions being imposed on the target country.

Asymmetric warfare, on the other hand, refers to the kind of warfare whereby the two parties in war have their resources different. The warfare involves strategies and certain tactics used by one or both parties. One party may have technological advantage over other parties and this may serve as its strength in the war. The article gives brief detailed analysis of the two types of warfare in lucid manner using appropriate examples easy to understand.
