What Makes Me a Perfect Candidate, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 614

Essay

In high school I always courses and events that either celebrated art or gave you the opportunity to display your artistic talent. I was a member of modeling and dance teams during the periods 2009-2012 and 2009-2011, respectively. The professionals in the fashion industry that make it all happen behind the scenes have always fascinated me whether they are fashion designers or fashion stylists. What particularly makes these professionals fascinating is the fact that they rarely show themselves in the public and let their work represent them which brings to mind an interview of Giorgio Armani I read sometimes ago. Armani claimed that he doesn’t use famous faces or top names in the modeling work for his runway shows because he wants the focus to be on the dresses and not the models themselves. Moreover, I also have the work ethics that is required to succeed in the fashion industry. I made it into the Honor Roll in 11th Grade and am a member of the National Honor Society.

My goal is to pursue a career as a fashion stylist as well as open my namesake boutique one day. I believe in continuous education and regularly read about the fashion industry to stay up-to-date on the emerging trends. This knowledge has not only helped me create more realistic future plans but has also given me a good insight into how the fashion industry works and how it has been evolving. One of the areas where I am trying to build a personal competency is the ability to spot emerging trends well before others because life cycle for trends has been getting increasingly shorter. Despite fashion companies’ ability to gather massive amount of data due to advancement in intelligence technologies, trend-spotting remains an art form to a great extent. Thus, having a good sense of style as well as the ability to predict emerging trends will be a huge asset to my career as a fashion stylist and boutique owner.

Fashion is now becoming a commodity due to globalization and brands are losing some of the prestige they used to carry before. Thus, it is even more important to be a trend setter now because products can be copied and quality can be improved but creativity is not imitable because it is still an art with no defined rules. Even the most premium brands such as Louis Vuitton understand that and Marc Jacobs continue to set Louis Vuitton apart from the competition through creative ideas such as his collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Similarly, stylists Rachel Zoe are brands themselves because while every stylist can get the items Rachel Zoe gets, very few stylists can compete with Rachel Zoe when it comes to creativity. This is why I am also focused on enhancing my creativity skills by keeping a close eye on the emerging trends through both reading fashion articles as well as keeping an open eye when I go out with my friends. I still remember I was one of the first among my friends who felt that Greek Sandals would grow in popularity because I felt they looked good with almost every dress combination.

I will also be a successful fashion stylist because I have great people skills. My counselor at high school would often tell me that I come across as a likeable person and has the ability to quickly win over others’ confidence due to sincere tone. She would also praise my good manners. My passion to help others look great as well as my people skills will help me build a business that not only treats its clients with respect but also provides an enjoyable and respectful working environment to the employees.
