Canadian women are willing to forego some luxuries so long as they get to keep their mobile devices. Women have found using gadgets easier.

There are five groups of female mobile device users. They include;

  • Aspiring adopters
  • Connected Careerists
  • Mobile mamas
  • Established but unimpressed
  • Silvers speakers

The article highlights the perceptions women have towards their mobile devices. The authors base their research on a study, the 2011 Master Index, that showed nearly half of women in Canada have become overly dependent on the mobile electronic devices, such as their smartphones, digital cameras and MP3 players.

It showed that a considerable portion of Canadian women in adulthood are willing to give up some luxuries than part with their mobile electronic devices. This is because women in Canada have become dependent on their mobile electronic devices as a result of the increased functionality of these devices.

Digital cameras, mobile phones and MP3 players are the most common mobile electronic devices used by women in Canada in that order. Furthermore, the study depicts how the report classifies the relationship women have withier mobile devices into five stages;

  1. Aspiring adopters, aged between 18 and 34 years adopt new technology at an early age. And are most likely to won MP3 devices. This is largely associated with age.
  2. Connected careerists, aged between 18 and 34 years, adopt technology at the earliest age. They are most likely to own digital cameras, MP3 players, portable video or gaming devices and smartphones in that order.
  3. Mobile mamas, aged between 25 and 49 years, are characterized by ownership of numerous mobile electronic devices, some of which are used by their children.
  4. Established but unimpressed, aged between 35 and 45 years are the least adopters of new technology. They usually own a single mobile electronic device, usually a mobile phone.
  5. Silver Speakers, aged 55+, usually have a two devices, a cell phone, for communication, and a digital camera, for recording memories.
