The article “When all you’ve ever wanted wasn’t enough” can be summed as an article that talks about how people live their lives every day hoping, wishing that they hada little bit more happiness to make their lives complete. Despite getting more money from their job, having an even nicer car even having the secrets to unlimited wealth, it is just not enough. People can get everything that they want in their life and still not be satisfied because the bigger part of them are going to always wonder, what else can I get that would make my life complete, and it is a question that never has the right answer. Instead of just being satisfied with the things that they have or the things that they have acquired, they want more because since more is better then them acquiring it would by definition “make them better”. However, people forget most times that all good things must come to an end which means that the happiness they achieved from whatever they gained is only temporary. Some people do not appreciate all that they have because they are always looking for that something better than what they have, it is human nature to be greedy but not to the extent of not being satisfied with what they have already and what they accomplished to get it. I agree with the author’s points throughout the entire reading because there are way too many people that want “just that little bit something extra” in order to be able to feel complete and whole. There is nothing wrong with people wanting the things that they want, but the drive they use to get that little something extra becomes the defining point of who they are. After a while when they have what they always wanted, the happiness they reveled in, the drive that pushed them toward that goal faded away because deep down they know their moment in the sun has faded away. Another reason why I agree with the author’s points in the reading is because people are naturally greedy and want to be noticed by nature, unfortunately so is not being satisfied with the natural order of things. For example, a person who got all straight A’s in school, was valedictorian in both high school and college, got a job that pays them $100,000 to $325,000 a year. Drive a nice car, have 3 kids that follow in their parent’s successful footsteps and they still are not happy because all of that happiness in success is not enough for them. The reason, they worked hard because they knew they would not have any of those things without the hard work they put in to get those things. A person’s avarice is responsible for the reason why so they are so unhappy, ironically. Seeing this with my own two eyes, I’ve seen people fall apart without that missing piece of happiness that they claim they were robbed of. I remember when I first started working from home, I was making my own money and was able to make a pretty comfortable living for myself. The amount of money that I was making was destined to increase the longer I did what I was doing, I felt like I was on top of the world because that little bit of happiness that I had longed for I finally achieved. My dream was always to make money doing what I love to do, I also knew that my destiny did not lie in the salt mines like everyone else. I had a real opportunity to make the kind of money that I knew my talent allowed me to, I eventually made that dream come true. Unfortunately, thehappiness I felt in that moment suddenly did not feel like it made a difference because I was missing the one thing that I knew my heart longed for, love. Sure, I was successful and making my own money and can buy myself anything I want but none of that mattered to me. I wanted someone to share that with, it was not a matter of happiness. The article makes a valid point, people need to be happy with what they have and not look for more than they think they’re entitled to.
