When in Pakistan, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 304

Essay

It is highly important to focus on the business cultural traditions of Pakistani professionals and to use this information to infer characteristics that would help strengthen a partnership with individuals within this country. It is first essential to determine the code of ethics that the individuals have within a targeted organization. According to “Differences between Work-related Ethics and Non-work Ethics, and the Effects of Religiosity”, it is essential to define the difference between ethics at work and ethics at home in addition to an individual’s relationship with religion in defining what these characteristics are. “When in Pakistan” indicates emphasizes the actual cultural differences between Pakistan and other societies. In particular, the author notes that meetings never started on time, discussions were occasionally off-topic, and the project director was expected to know every aspect of the project. Therefore, an ideal structure for a large project in Pakistan that requires strong sponsorship will account for these cultural differences.

Firstly, since a majority of meetings will not start on time, it is essential to start them earlier than necessary to allow for preliminary discussion with the individuals who do arrive and to begin more closely to the intended time. This will build sponsorship to support the project. Next, it is essential for the project committee to direct the discussions more closely in order to ensure that important points are discussed. However, it’s important to not pressure the Pakistani business officials to return to the topic being discussed and to allow occasional tangential discussion in order to show respect. Lastly, it is essential for the project director to be knowledgeable about all aspects of the project in order to gain the trust of the group. This may require studying project components that may be otherwise unnecessary to learn, but will be beneficial if it results in the necessary sponsorship.
