Research Paper

Gasoline is a name that is so common in our livelihood that not a minute passes before someone mentioning this word; it has become a common need to our daily life as it’s the major link in nearly most human related activities and is essential in all major institutes for various uses. The name gasoline originates from the Native American also called petrol or gas; this is a mixture of liquids derived from petroleum, consist mainly of aliphatic hydrocarbons acquired by fractional distillation its crude product (petroleum) and is augmented with aromatic hydrocarbons benzene and toluene and iso-octane for increment of rating in octane. Gasoline primary and main used is fuel for internal combustion engines and is also used as solvent.

This paper will show the pros and cons of how from time memorial the elevation for the need of gasoline use and the rate that gasoline is polluting our eco-system and assisting in environment degradation. This paper outlines that why even when the prices of gasoline have hiked up, the price we are paying for the product its self is far less than the price we are going to pay if the existence and usage of this product continues adamantly, we will look at the pros and cons of gasoline and detail if the prices are too high (Amadeo, 2009)

From the beginning of the 17th century when the first discovery of this commodities were being reported, the use of gasoline was usually to kill lice and used as cleaning fluid and also had medicinal values. Although in real sense the use of this commodity to execute these duties was actually associated with many fatalities as the product is highly flammable and causes dermatitis to the skin. According to Hincks, (2004) the fumes emitted from these products also had cancer related complication. This is especially when gasoline engine started to become popular in manufacturing companies and in vehicles. This saw the demand of gasoline in an alarmingly rate, and Co2 emission was born (Ron, 2004).

There are many resourceful ways that gasoline helps in our daily lives for in most cases we can hardly do without it benefits. The material separated from crude oil via distillation known as virgin or straight run gasoline consist of hydrocarbons amounting 5-12 carbon atoms per molecule (McCool, 2007). These particles are considered hazardous substances which cause the eco-system to even have acid rains from excessive emission of Co2. United State Occupational Safety and Health Administration data’s shows that unleaded gasoline has 25 hazardous chemical, major and most dangerous recorded include benzene 15% up by volume, naphthalene 7.5% up by volume, toluene 45%up by volume, trimethylbenezene up by 17% up by volume, Carbon Dioxide 75% up by volume, Nitrogen 25% up by volume, Carbon Monoxide 45% and MTBE 38%up by volume. The gasoline produced when this emission are emitted in the eco-system is far much less pricy considering the price human pays to complications derived by the degraded environment and his in most cases cannot be reversed back. So we have to bare all this with diseases and other health complications that are rampant in our society. (Paulina Pino, Tomás Walter; Manuel J. Oyarzún A3, Matthew J. Burden; Betsy Lozoff, 2004)

Gasoline is the main fueling factor to the transportation sector in the whole world, especially in the U.S it’s greatly used, now considering the number of motor vehicles on the roads the emission of Co2 in the environment cannot be repaired even if the prices of gas were hiked up by a dollar to cover this pollution. According to Wespipe, (2007) the more expensive the more the more it guzzles gasoline to support its torque and horse power meaning more pollution and the less expensive the car like Honda Civic with low consumption per mileage the less pollution. So it’s good to say the more you pay for a car and gasoline the more the environment pays the price due to pollution.
