Why Employees Love Working for Costco, Essay Example

Essay

It does not appear any job at any wage is better than no job. When individuals are not paid a living wage, they work long hours and are barely able to support themselves. As a consequence of needing to work so hard, they often fall victim to physical and mental illness. Therefore, in some situations, it is arguably preferable to not work at all if the work that is allowed does not allow an individuals to achieve a reasonable standard of living. This answer does not change if this question is applied to a worker in a developing nation because these individuals have the same needs as workers in developed nations. In fact, these individuals are subjecting themselves to even greater risks than their counterparts that live in developed nations.

Independently of the area that is inhabited or the status of an individual as a member of a developed or developing nation, a fair wage could be defined as a wage that allows an individual to seek out reasonable shelter, food, and clothing, and have a small amount of additional money for entertainment or other purposes. A fair wage at minimum must allow an individual’s basic needs to be met. While I do not believe I would have worked harder if my pay had been higher, I do think that I would have been motivated to work longer hours. Furthermore, I believe that I would have intrinsically performed better because I would be happier overall (Wallop, 2015).

I would prefer to work at Costco because savings are acquired by purchasing in bulk and it is well-known that the rights of the workers are protected. Even though these prices are passed to me in terms of price, I strongly feel that I receive better service as a Costco customer than as a Wal-Mart customer. It is apparent that the employees take pride in their work and the organization of their store, which makes the shopping experience more positive overall (Cooperstein, 2013).
