Why I Want to Work for Air Quality District, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 515

Essay

The air is the ubiquitous resource that every one uses and every one needs it’s the one resource that none of us can live without. This implies that for us to improve the quality of our environment as well as our lives, we need to ensure that the quality of the air around us is good.  I have an impressive background with air quality knowledge which makes me quite passionate about air Quality

I got to know of the detrimental effects of the human activities and the on the makeup of air in 1981 when I was watching a documentary about the so called the ozone hole. This was an eye opener that served to arouse my interest in environmental affairs. After this in 1984 I became a Smog Check Technician and worked on inspecting and repairing anti-smog devices on cars. My main duty as a Smog Check Mechanic was to reduce the levels of HC, NOX, and CO levels emissions from the vehicles. For a period of nine years that I worked on this job, I got to know the way human activities especially industry and automotives served to pollute the environment and degrade it. In my passion as an individual I took full responsibility for my mandate and ensured that I adhered to the laws and regulations when inspecting automotives and repairing them. It gave me an ecstatic feeling when I was repairing cars to bring down their emission levels to pass the smog check since I felt I was making a difference. My passion for the environment drove me to take personal responsibility for the work I did.

In the Year 1993 I went back to school to obtain my Chemistry Degree, this gave me fundamental understanding of environmental chemistry and I was especially interested in air chemistry due to my auto mechanic background. This is where I also got to appreciate the many effects that emissions have on the environment raging from acid rain to depletion of the ozone layer and global warming, all of which can be attributed to environmental pollution

Generally in my view, biogenic sources of air pollution have always been a problem. However, the anthropogenic pollutants currently emitted like sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, particulates, lead compound as well as other chemical effluents  have a detrimental effect on the environment and its inhabitants sometimes much more effect than the biogenic sources.  I also have a license as an aesthetician (skin care) and I know the effects of harmful ultraviolet rays on the human skin. These dermatological effects can also not be ignored since some of them like skin cancer can turn out to be lethal

I feel that my passion and knowledge from automotive mechanics and Chemistry will serve me well in delivering quality in this field. In my current position, I perform all operations with professionalism and efficiency that supersedes all expectation. With this attitude and drive, I believe I will get a chance to put my skills in good use as well as do what I believe in, that is conserve the environment.
