Why Is There a Need to Breastfeed, Research Paper Example

Infants deserve to receive the best nutrition they need especially that they are undergoing a specifically crucial stage of development. It could be understood that somehow, the capacity of an infant’s body to fight off particular ailments is quite weak (Kramer, et al, 1993); hence it needs every support it could get to be able to make distinctive adjustments as the baby’s body tries to survive outside the mother’s womb. This is the reason why it is crucial to note that every infant receive nutritional help from their mothers during the first months of being introduced into the outside world.

The only perfect source that an infant’s body needs come directly from the mother through breastfeeding and it is only through this manner of feeding that a child’s immune system and resistance is kept at an alert status thus protecting the child’s system from all the other risks that could affect the infant’s health. Experts actually suggest that infants just born be fed with the mother’s milk within the first hours of being introduced to the external elements of the outside environment apart from the mother’s womb (Newcomb, et al, 2000). Relatively, it is also recommended that somehow, children be continuo’s breastfed until the sixth month, or as the mother prefers, the feeding could last up to two years.

Besides the distinction on how nutritional values could be passed on from the mother to the child, breastfeeding also provides the mother and the child a better sense of connective bonding. Notably, the physical connection that the mother and the child shares during the first months of living apart as two separate individuals provides the child a more comfortable environment thus allowing it to adjust to the outside world while its body tries to create a distinct sense of control on how individual survival could be attested as something that the infant would fully take.

With such bond, psychologists claim that infants develop better emotional quotient thus helping them develop into more independent individuals later on. (Sadurskis, et al, 2000). This is a complete opposition to the idea that others imply on how children would become highly dependent on the mother later on because of the attachment theory. Breastfeeding allows the infant feel comfortable and relaxed. This particular feeling does have a great impact on how the child is able to adjust towards different situations that it shall face later on.

Overall, it could be observed that breastfeeding does have several benefits for both the mother and the child. Some other specific benefits is that of the fact that mothers who have just undergone labor and delivery are expected to lose weigh faster and recover at a much better pace from the delivery when they breastfeed (HIllson, 2006). Their body reacts to the stimulation of the child’s suction from the mother’s breast thus immediately responding to the need of healing the mother faster. Meanwhile, the fat that the mother specifically gained during the pregnancy turns into useful fat that mixes with the baby’s milk thus making losing weight easier to accomplish (Stuebe, et al, 2007).

Above all, it is economically nutritional. Not to be religious or anything, but God’s creation and the system used to make sure that every infant born to the world is supported according to its needs should remind mothers that there is a reason why breastfeeding milk has been made readily available for newly born babies (Price, 2004). It is free, it is clean, it is safe and it is the best source of nutrition that each developing infant needs to survive. With all these reasons given attention to, would it not be specifically agreeable that every child deserves to be breastfed?

The willingness of a mother breastfeed her child marks her willingness to serve the needs of her child as needed. Considerably, it is because of this particular fact that mothers are strongly encouraged to develop a desire to feed their children with the best and safest nutritious milk that they need to become healthier and better individuals.
