In a World where English is a Global Language, Why Learn French?
While English is a language that is widely spoken around the world, and it is also used by several global organizations, people often choose to learn French, as a second language. The below essay will provide some reasons why learning the language can be useful in both business and academic life. According to a recent Forbes Magazine article (Gobry), French is likely to be spoken by more than 750 million people in the world by 2050. It is a fast-growing living language, and it is said that it offers more flexibility to express thoughts than English. There are some additional features of French that do not exist in the English language, making it easier to express thoughts. According to some authors, French language is more expressive than English. A British Council article has revealed that “there is no one to one correspondence between its tense and time”, and this is an important linguistic feature in diplomacy.
Today, French is becoming extremely important to create international agreements that can be clearly understood, and cannot be misunderstood. French language is more suitable for clearly expressing ideas, thoughts, and even hierarchies than English. Some people argue that today’s pattern for globalization is bringing forward the rise of African countries, and their integration. Several of these countries are former French colonies, and one of the official languages of these countries is French. As of today, French is the official language of Canada, Belgium (where the headquarters of the European Union are found), Tunisia, and Morocco. This indicates that French language has more importance in politics, globalization, and education as well than anyone would imagine. As the number of people speaking French is growing, according to the above quoted article, it is advisable that students who focus on the future learn French; the next language of diplomacy and international politics.
Taking into account the emergence of history and its importance towards how the future is established according the situations that have shaped the past, it could be realized that the real essence of learning a foreign language such as French is also a valid indication on how people today are preparing for the future and the changes that it might as well bring into account. Notably, people have become more concerned about how they embrace the new essence of living as they follow along the trends of living brought about by the ideal principles of globalization. Most likely, it could be observed that this condition of development in relation to the mindset of the modern society and how much they want to embrace progress serves as a mark on how global progress is deemed as somewhat extensive and implicative on how humans ought to let themselves be guided with their culture and the way they manage how they accept the different aspects of progress that comes along with it. Being one of the most known languages around the globe, it could be realized that French is among those that are expected to make a mark on the coming age of the future. Notably, the influence that the French society has had on the people before, is expected to take on a larger toll on how the world welcomes new age cultures later on. The concept of history repeating itself and seeing how the French communities are gaining a deep sense of recognition in relation to commercial progress, understandably, this point of recognition ought to have a greater impact on how the people tend to recognize the importance of the role they ought to take as they make amends on their own lifestyles and cultures as they welcome the impact of global development and progress into their lives.
