According to Gruber, research findings indicate that, heterosexual individuals who have pathological personalities have higher chances of getting mates. Possession of extreme traits of pathological personality enhances the chances of a person in the love game. Neurological and impulsive pathological traits individuals have been associated with a high number of mates and children thus linking the traits with an evolutionary advantage. Pathologically reckless females as well as males have the agility of attracting more partners though on short term basis as compared to individual having average personalities. Additionally, obsessive-compulsive men have a higher rate of success in getting long term mates. The most probable explanation is the high income that this group can make as compared to the less obsessive. As far as women are concerned, neurotic females have high chances for sustaining long term relationships. Although they may be exposed to insecurity, anxiousness as well as instability, they have the potentials for long term mates as well as many children. Evidence from have indicated that personality disorders, but not diseases are sexually related evolutionary strategies and in most cases, the strategies are ancestral while others predate humanity. Marrying and having children with a person with behaviors that fall outside the norm is however questionable.
According to observable gender differences, females have a higher degree of neurotism as compared to their male counterparts. This observation prompts most men to interpret the high echelons of negative emotionality that is evident in women as symptoms of femininity. Most people are attracted to such mates because they may be captivating, rule breaking, selfish, rebellious as well as imprudent. They are also associated with bravery, self-reliance, independence as well as temerarious, thus making it possible for them to lead galvanizing as well as frantic lives. This leads to captivating of people and the desirability is also associated with an evolutionary process and thus serves as a fitness indicator. The person is therefore able to lead a dangerous life but does not suffer any harm.
The case of obsessive individual attracting mates is fairly easy to explain. With sufficient money, safeness, survival as well as resources to rear children are accessible. This group is also associated with reliability, cautiousness as well as seriousness in their life. Majority of the mates have similar personalities and thus, people with pathological personalities may be attracted to one another same as people with neuroticism spectrum. However, the spouses may fail to notice the problem at initial stages until a time that they are fully committed in their relationships. And in case both mates have similar pathological traits, then genetically, the traits will automatically be passed forward to their children in more vigorous magnitudes. The lifestyles among the impulsive individuals also play a crucial role in attracting their potential partners. The women with high neuroticism scores may enter in to relationships for the purpose of getting support. They may be motivated by the need for a stable relationship so that they can access financial stability as well as emotional support. The author also notes that, with an increase in the severity of the traits, the advantages in attraction of mates are realized coupled with the possibility for more offspring.
