Essay

Engineering is a field that is both interesting and challenging, providing new opportunities and challenges to discover. I have always been fascinated with building and constructing long lasting structures, and have worked for a construction company for many years. Having obtained a BA in mechanical engineering, I developed a natural curiosity towards building engineering, as it is an innovative field, with plenty of opportunities to enhance safety, performance, material reliability reduce costs, and make buildings greener.

The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science graduate program would provide me with all the knowledge I need to use technology in my daily life for improving plans, construction schedules, and ensure that the latest technologies are utilized in the most effective manner. The research and data analysis skills I could obtain by attending the course would enable me to evaluate the performance of construction technologies and designs, so I can implement quality improvement measures in my work.

I am in particularly interested in computer visualization and planning software utilization, and performance assessment. I would like to continue pursuing a career in the construction industry, and with my mechanical engineering degree, and the newly obtained qualification, I believe that I could make changes in the company’s systems that would positively impact performance, scheduling, day-to-day operation, innovation, and quality assurance. I would like to research engineering quality assurance methods and guidelines in order to ensure that I fully understand the current trends, legislation, requirements, processes, and innovative approaches.

I believe that I could build upon my existing degree and years of engineering experience while attending the course, and improve my competency in both construction and computer sciences, and my interest in the field would make me a motivated student.
