Course Description

Different cultures often disadvantage women with disabilities. This is particularly prevalent in the third world countries where superstition and religion are often contributory factors.  Statistics Canada stated some 16% of women are disabled and this makes them vulnerable for being victims of violence or sexual assault. They stated that the unemployment rate for disabled women was as high as 74% . The most abused victims coming from the poorer regions of the world. (Dawn Ontario).

Women with disabilities face far more hardships in the developing or third world countries.  Cultural attitudes are negatively portrayed towards women as they fight against religious intolerances, cultural discrimination and conditions of extreme poverty.  It remains one of the important areas for policy and program change for the international community. (Groce)
