Pages: 1

Words: 336

Essay

Women in Mexico have not enjoyed equal rights as their male counterparts, during the pre-revolutionary period they were suppose to live their lives in their male shadow. They were consumed in family life, marriage and the religion, which require them to be submissive to their husbands. Mexican government passed the Mexicon Civil Code, which restricted women from enjoying the same rights as male both at home and work. This led to the rise of Mexicon revolution of 1910-1920 with the main objective of fighting against discrimination for this group; the revolution involves women involvement in the battlefield and politics.

Women involvement in the revolution did not only play a crucial role as political figures and role models, but also played a significant role in the battlefield the women who participated in battlefields were also called Soldaderas or soldier-women. Their involvement in the battlefield is what brought about revolution, without it, the women could not have rid themselves from discrimination and denial of their rights. The battlefield thus is significant as it brought feminism to light and brings into their awareness their role in the society and not to stay being passive members, they should get involved in issues affecting their lives the battlefield can be said to have brought women empowerment.

Through their involvement in battlefields, women were able to fight for better lives that will enable them live a free life. Their active participation by carrying guns and joining the band marked a new revolution of equity and role differentiation of sex, women will not be seen as passive participants, and they will hold the same position as men this will bring respect.

Women involvement in the battlefield is thus a movement, which brought about revolution in Mexico and bring into an end discrimination against women. Their brave and selfless involvement in the fight brought changes not only in Mexico but also to the whole world; these women should be honored, as they are the role model to other women to always stand and strive for their rights.
