Women in Islam: Equality or Equity, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Research Paper

Women in Islam are treated as per the equity. This indicates that men and women are treated and given respect as they deserve. There is no equality because equality means that both genders should be given equal share of treatment or respect. According to Muslim, women are given a position of respect and honor with clearly stated obligations and rights (Van Nieuwkerk 54). The Quran guarantees the rights of women, but it has been difficult to implement because of the men predominant traditions. The rights and privileges of women as indicated in the Quran are regarding divorce, inheritance and marriage. Currently, reforms have been made, which have led to the improved opportunities for Muslim women. The opportunities include general emancipation for women and education. The areas where there are some inflict hardships are particularly employment, political activity and divorce (Barazangi 76).

There is a predominant theme in contemporary Muslim writings, which is accepted and expressed by both sexes. They treat it as a natural circumstance where women have clearly defined roles as depicted by their innate characteristics and qualities. This will make them concentrate on their roles and not to appropriate on functions, which are reserved for men. The psychological and somatic differences between men and women determine the distinct, but complementary duties and issues designed for each. Muslim women are freed from many concerns and problems, which are assumed or done by men. This is a very important situation that they feel it is not easy to be given up (Engineer 38). They are not ready to give up whether liberation is appropriate, not within, or without the tradition. A decision in Muslim is not made without considering Quran and the Muslim understanding on the issue. Women in Muslim are treated as per equity perspectives. No one between men and women should assume the roles of one another. Women are given what they deserve and men are given what they deserve.
