Change is an inherent characteristic of every aspect in the human life. However, the pace and direction of change can only be dictated by the agents of change. In the contemporary world globalization has emerged as the major agent of change that affects different dimensions of human life. Globalization has introduced tremendous changes in various aspects of life ranging from the economical aspect, social dimensions and political spheres. As search specific elements of life which include culture, communication, businesses, wars, work, and identity formation have been greatly affected by globalization as an agent of change. The interplay between these factors and globalization has greatly contributed to the changes in the society. For instance, Henry Jenkins, (p 320) notes that agents of change in the society are the major forces behind the new dimensions of .life that are common in the contemporary society. It is in this light that this study highlights how the aforementioned elements have been greatly affected by globalization.
Culture
Even though globalization has greatly affected the above aspect mentioned aspect of life, the impact on culture has been felt by different people across the world. Globalization tends to promote a common culture where most people tend to cultivate their identity. For instance, before globalization each country or region around the world had its own different culture that could be used to define and identify its people. Regions such as Arab world had a culture which was very far from the secular approach to life that is eminent in the western regions like USA and the UK. Likewise regions such as Africa had a culture which was entirely rooted in the traditional beliefs; however, globalization has greatly contributed to the adoption of new cultures across the world (Broadbery Stephen and Bishnupriya p. 450).
One major positive contribution of globalization towards culture is that it has promoted the element of diversity thus providing great avenues for various people to learn different cultures. In the world today, different individuals are able to interact very easily due to the opportunity to learn from various cultures. Globalization has greatly changed various cultures across the world thereby enabling different people to cope with different behaviors and practices. The most culture that is associated with globalization is the western culture which is believed to the most powerful cultures in the world. As indicated by Rebecca Tuhus, (p 430) posits that, western culture has occupied a bigger space in the modern social facet of life due to its influence. Unlike other cultures, the western culture heavily embraces the secular aspects of life which have been found to be very influences. The western dominates other arenas of life such as businesses, beaurocracies, economics and politics (Rebecca Tuhus, p 430).
Media
The other element that has greatly changed due to globalization is the media. Globalization and media are two major variables that depend on each to influence change in other aspects of life such as work, culture, capitalism and businesses. For instance globalization relies on the media to spread its influence across the world, while at the same time media depends on globalization for its growth, expansion and influence. For example globalization is believed to have emanated from the development of media and communication tools such as internet, telephone, fax system and print media such as newspapers. These media tools rely on globalization to spread their wings to different locations of the world. In this regard, it is therefore evident that globalization has contributed to the expansion and growth of the media industry. It is through globalization that the media devices have penetrated different markets across the world. Internet for example has greatly expanded its size due to globalization. Interne utilizes globalization to connect different people around the world. The connection is used by people to carry different transactions in the global market (Henry Jenkins, p 320)
Work and economy
The other aspect has greatly changed due to globalization is work. Before globalization individuals were used to work and doing businesses in particular fixed locations, however, this trend has greatly changed. Globalization has contributed towards the labor mobility which has greatly enhanced its efficiency and effectiveness. In explicating the relationship between labor mobility and economic development, economists argue that mobile labor has greater opportunities to contribute to the development of the global economy. Mobile labor attracts high wages due to the high risks of movement. This point therefore explains how globalization has affected work while at the same contributing to economic development. Globalization opens more markets for the goods and services produced by different countries across the world, thereby increasing the volume of trade activities. This consequently requires more labor force to handle the increased activities. In the light of these positive anecdotes it is therefore imperative to assess the impact of globalization on work on a good dimension, nevertheless, the negative impacts of globalization on work should not be overlooked. Globalization in has been marked by intense competition in the labor industry which has contributed to joblessness in some regions. For instance multinational corporations have promoted employment of individuals from developed regions of the world while at the same promoting joblessness in the developing countries (Broadbery Stephen and Bishnupriya p. 450).
