Working at Dogwood, Essay Example

Today’s experience was quite productive. After Edgewood, I started working at Dogwood, their other location that house females. I enjoy being there since the ladies are all very welcoming and calm. They regularly attend day program and come on-time at around 4 pm every day. I have discovered they just took in a new client from Greystone Hospital and my supervisor would like me to work with her. I welcomed this opportunity since it will be my first hands-on experience. I do feel she will be a challenging client since she hesitates to share information with me or any other staff member.

One of my major observations is that women residents are quite articulate and don’t need much guidance like the male residents.  They access the community on their own and most of them understand the budgeting process such as allocating funds to bank accounts and meals. In addition, they also attend day programs. It was through the day program that a resident named April met a man and then moved to supported housing. One of the psychiatric rehabilitation’s goals is community integration. The aim is to help individuals live independently in a community of their choice.
