Thesis Paper

Introduction

After the completion of my course, I would be much comfortable to have my internship with the Central Queensland Health Service District. My main area is to deal with the individuals facing the Alzheimer’s disease. It is a neurodegenerative brain disease that commonly results to a dementia. It is the main cause of death within the American citizens. This means that it affects almost 5 million Americans.

The Alzheimer’s disease takes the advantage of the elderly people whereby it results to the mental impairment. If a person goes around all the health care hospitals and the nursing homes around The United States of America, he or she will get that the disease occupies a large percentage of elderly patients nursed in those health care facilities.

What Influenced me towards the Alzheimer’s disease as my Internship

I find that learning and working with people affected with the disease is quite challenging and it requires much concentration since it has become the most disruptive disease within the Americans. The disease requires the intervention of many doctors and nurses but since they are not sufficient, it has offered me with an inspiration to add myself as one of the doctors by first doing a voluntary work. Just to take my chance and learn about the disease has made me to realize that the disease is more than the loss of memory. This has offered me with the enough courage to have heart in taking care of the disease accordingly and also to educate the society concerning it in such away that they can be equipped with enough knowledge on how to deal with it.

How to notice that a person is suffering from the Alzheimer’s disease

As a professional in this section, if a person is forgetful, confused and facing a dementia, then I should know the person is suffering from an Alzheimer’s disease. The foremost stage is the forgetfulness and it is always noted by the loss of memory that occurs shortly. If any one will have an interest of testing this, then you will get that a person tends to forget the simple names of the prominent people and also misplacing the items regularly. In addition, a person might have difficulties in delivering any speech and loss of spontaneity as well as the social withdrawal. The memory loss and the cognitive deterioration are more pronounced in the confusion stage. Here the patient faces difficulties of remembering where they are or confusing about the days of the week. The loss of memory and mental illness occurs deeply in the last stage known as the dementia.

At this final stage, the patient cannot recognize any of the people he or she loves, for instance the spouse.  The patient can be unable to have any recognition of the number of children he or she have. At long last, after passing all the stages the patient can be bedridden as there will be a disintegration of the brain functioning.

My Experience towards the Alzheimer’s disease as my Internship

The disease do need any tool for it to be taken care of since the diseased needs only care from the doctors or the family members. Any individual suffering from the disease must be provided with the special care activities such as the using the toilet, having bath, shaving and providing the person with food. For this to take place any care giver like me needs to have knowledge and skills concerning the Alzheimer’s disease as well as patience since it pays. It is important that I as an intern doctor in the Queensland Health Service District to have an evaluation session with the patient suffering from the Alzheimer’s so that I can come up with a clear idea regarding any physical that may be as a result of the problem to the diseased. I should posses a journal that describes how often the aggressive behaviors occur to the diseased. Doing this will help me achieve more knowledge concerning the disease and have courage to handle it efficiently.
