World Tracking Survey, Essay Example

Essay

Do you agree or disagree with the information outlined in the article?

Overall, I agree with the information presented in the article, but was surprised to learn that China and India were considered the top two countries on the basis of the Greendex Calculator Survey (Greendex, n.d.). These were interesting findings given that both countries are largely polluted due to manufacturer interests in the regions. However, it is apparent that the individual actions of the average Chinese and Indian citizen is considered to be more “green”. It appears that this is the case because individuals in India generally consume less meat than the rest of the world and individuals in both nations are more likely to attempt to repair old products than they are to buy new ones.

As a consumer, do you purchase items based on their impact on the environment?

As a consumer, I attempt to purchase items based on their impact on the environment, but I don’t always have a realistic understanding of what this impact might be. When products are clearly labelled as “green”, I will try to buy them preferentially over other products.

Do you recycle? If yes, share your recycling plan. If not, explain why.

I recycle a majority of the time. Occasionally, I ask restaurants and other locations that I visit if they have recycling so I can throw away my bottles properly, but they do not a lot of the time.

What two lessons did you learn from this article?

This article taught me that it is important for the United States and other first world nations to become more environmentally conscious because they are having a negative impact on nature and the environment. I also learned that people are beginning to act on their beliefs and are altering their consumer habits to help contribute to a more stable environment. It is therefore important for people to begin altering their attitudes to help support the environment.

Results

The Greendex Calculator Survey assigned me a score of 53.
