You Say You Want a Devolution? Essay Example

Essay

The article, “You Say You Want a Devolution?” certainly makes one ponder how the world evolves. The article is about how the appearance of the world has not changed much from what it looked like 20 years ago, yet prior to that, there was always a difference in style and fashion from decade to decade. I think the main reason for this is that today’s world is full of people who are more accepting. The younger generation is more inclusive and embrace the melting pot of people, cultures, styles, fashions, and music. The world is more of a live-and-let-live society than it was prior to 1990. This is also a product of the advances in technology, as people spend less time worrying about fitting into a certain mold and more time interacting with technology in some way—mobile phones, the Internet, social media, computers, electronic tablets, iPods, iPads, etc. Another reason that style and fashion may not have changed in the last two decades, as it had in previous decades, is because of globalization. People just have better things to do; whereas, for example, in the 1970s, people relied on magazines, newspapers, and local TV for information. Now, anyone in the world can connect with anyone in the world, and style and fashion have become more universal.Additionally, I agree with the article where it states that part of the reason for little change in how the world looks is due to economic reasons on the part of businesses that have global reach. It would cost too much for these businesses to change all of their branding every so many years to try and accommodate rapid style and fashion changes in society(Andersen).
